We’ll Never Look at Pancakes the Same Way After This Below Deck Med Charter
Below Deck Med chef Dave White was taken aback by charter guest Dominique Easley’s very specific pancake requirements.
While we’re very used to seeing plenty of egg-related drama across the Below Deck franchise, a different breakfast food was causing chef Dave White major frustration on the November 7 episode of Below Deck Mediterranean.
On the first day of the group’s charter, guest Dominique Easley told Dave, “I would like some pancakes.” However, not just any pancakes would do the trick. In addition to wanting the pancakes to be “big,” the former NFL pro explained, “I like it crispy around the edges, though. Not too fluffy.” After asking if Dave had coconut oil in the galley, Dominique gave the chef some advice on the preparation. “Obviously, you can do whatever way you do it, [but] I just take a nice little glob and put it right in the center as I’m dripping the batter in… so it can just spread it out.”
After hearing Dominique’s requests, Dave came to a conclusion about how to prepare the pancakes for that night’s dinner. “If someone asks for a thin pancake, I’m going to make a crepe,” he said. “Super airy, super light, crispy on the outside… I even got a blowtorch just to make it really crispy on the outside.”
However, Dave quickly learned that his assumption was not correct. “I did not ask for crepes. I specifically said pancakes,” Dominique said. “I’m not eating that s--t.”
Dave was a bit confused, to say the least. “I was told that he doesn’t like American-style pancakes,” he said in an episode interview. “I was told that he wants thin, crispy on the outside, so I sent him up a f--king thin pancake.”
When Dave sent up his second attempt at the pancakes, Dominique still wasn’t pleased. However, he said he would try them and even offered to teach the crew his “technique” for making the dish. Well, based on the preview for next week’s episode, it seems the pancake-related tension is just getting started.
