Christian Siriano Reveals Which Designers He’s Most Excited to See Back on Project Runway
The Project Runway mentor also shared why it was “weird” to work with one designer again during Season 20.
Bravo’s Project Runway returned on June 14 with Season 20’s two-part premiere and 14 familiar faces as the first All-Stars–themed season in the show’s history.
Returning to the competition are judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell, and Elaine Welteroth as well as mentor Christian Siriano, who is guiding the designers along the way.
Since Season 20 features contestants from Seasons 1 to 19, plenty of nostalgia is in order. Following the June 14 premiere, Christian appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to reflect on some of those familiar faces, considering his past on the competition show before winning Season 4.
Christian Siriano is excited to see these former contestants back on Project Runway
“I am wildly excited that Kara Saun is back on television,” host Andy Cohen gushed about the Season 1 contestant who has gone on to dress the likes of actresses Zendaya and Zoe Saldana as well serve as a fashion/creative consultant on numerous films.
Christian also shared his excitement for the returning designers, gushing about a few more contestants who are making their triumphant comeback.
“Two Season 1 designers: Kara Saun, Nora [Pagel], Korto [Momolu] — we got the good ones,” he began, then adding how “funny” it was he got to mentor Rami Kashou, considering their past season together.
“Rami [Kashou] from my season… now I mentor him, it’s funny!” the designer exclaimed of the Season 4 runner-up who’s gone on to dress notable clients such as Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.
Christian and Rami’s Relationship on Season 20 of Project Runway
Speaking of that mentorship…
During the June 14 episode of WWHL, two fans asked Christian about his relationship with Rami today and if it was “difficult” to be “impartial” toward his former competitor.
“It’s really interesting, obviously, since now I’m the mentor, but I’m there to, like, help and guide, and I want the best for him, and Rami’s very, very, very, very talented,” he shared. “It is weird to watch him make things and for me to be like, ‘I don’t really like it,’ but it’s really fun, ’cause now I get to be like, ‘It’s not that great… wanna try again?’ and he has to listen to me. It’s great!”
He continued: “But no — it’s really nice. A big surprise happens between us that’s very dramatic and I do cry over it. So you will have to watch to see that happen. I get very emotional. It’s so frustrating!”
OK, now we really need to see what goes down this season!
