Make a Selfie Style Statement
Everyone (including me) loves a good celebratory click-click on their phone in the middle of the holiday festivities. So why not rock a statement necklace & give that New Years Eve selfie some guaranteed likes galore. Try this Crystal Fringe necklace by Adia Kibur.
Put Ya Hands Up
Want to dance your way into the New Year wardrobe-worry free? So do I! Before you reach for that go-to clutch to complete your look, try changing it up with a crossbody bag, like this one from ASOS. It's a purse that slings across your shoulders and lays flat on your hips. When hitting the par-tay, this stylish option allows you to boogie with ease instead of worrying about where to hide your purse or, even worse, trying to hold it steady under your arm.
Brighten Up the Night
Give the black a break and decide to wear a jewel tone this year. Shades like magenta, sapphire blue, and emerald green are unexpected and super festive. Keep your shoes and accessories in neutral metallics like gold, silver, or bronze to avoid color clashing. You will stand out pretty in those soiree group shots where dark colors can easily get lost in the crowd.
Luxe It Up
There's nothing like adding some luxury to your look with a posh fur scarf, like this one from Hat Attack. Toss it over your coat before you head to the countdown ball or even sport it over your favorite dress indoors to give it a new rich look.
Bring Sexy Back: Legs Edition
Patterned hosiery in prints like cheetah, zebra, and look-at-me lace will drive the boys wild. No matter if you're party hopping in warm Los Angeles or chilly New York City, your legs will be haute haute haute! Bonus: Look for styles (like these from Spanx) with control top to make your tummy look flat and legs supermodel long.
Have Fun With Your Makeup
Gain Instagram comments galore with a New Years Eve beat. Translation: Pretty makeup that turns heads and makes you feel like the star that you are. The key is to decide if you want either 1) An Attention Grabbing Eye or 2) A Sultry Lip. Finish off both looks with affordable and natural-looking false eyelashes. My buddy Jamaal Buster hooks up Rihanna and Beyonce with lashes and now has a kit online for less than $20. Bonus: apply a primer on your lips first for a long lasting color & spray your entire face with a mist to hold your face fabulous until early morning on the first day of your fantastic year.
Wear a Personality Piece
Pull out your inner celebrity for the final fete of the year by changing your hair in an instant. No no no, I don't want you to shave off all of your hair, just play adult dress up. You can immediately become a sultry long blonde or short sassy redhead with a personality piece, like the ones from True Indian Hair. Celebs like Ciara, Beyonce, & Jennifer Hudson rock wigs, and now girls like you and I can too. You will be guaranteed a happy haute New Year with New Hair.

Stay Away From Black
Yes, I know, a little black dress (aka, LBD!) is easy and convenient and basic…but its NYE, and there should be nothing basic about your evening! It's the night to break out that pop color and stand out amongst the crowd. Right now, I am really into jewel tones. Think purples, kelly greens, turquoises, and cobalt blues. And the more sparkle, the better.
Test Your New Beauty Products Early
If you are going to try any new beauty products or regimens, do it about a week out. NYE is not the night to experiment with a new spray tan, facial, haircut, or any other beauty procedure. I learned this lesson the hard way last year with eyelash extensions and ended up in the ER with eyes that were swollen shut the day before New Years Eve. So not chic.
Leave the Heels at Home
There is nothing that puts me in the mood to dance on New Years Eve like some strappy, sky high heels…but NYE is not the night to break in a new pair of shoes. Make sure you can walk in your shoes (because no one wants to watch you stumble around like a baby goat). But most importantly, make sure you can dance in them until the wee hours of the night. I have one favorite pair of metallic strappy heels that are uber comfortable that I wear every year for this exact reason….so find your most comfortable pair of shoes that's already in your closet, and plan your outfit around them.
Be Sensible
Of course we all know that New Years Eve is the night where we want to look as sexy as possible (umm, hello NYE kiss!), but stick to just one set of goodies. If you are wearing something that is low cut, make sure its an appropriate length or maybe has long sleeves or is loose fitting. Chose one feature to show off, and remember, you want your dress to be tight enough to show you are a woman, but loose enough to show you're a lady.
Take a Clutch
When it comes to packing your clutch (which, if it's like mine, is tiny, no doubt!), stick to the essentials: long-wearing lip stick (so you aren't re-applying all night long; you can double it as blush and dab it on your cheeks), a wad of cash (for that late night cab ride home), and some breath mints (for that midnight kiss). And remember: a clutch with a strap might come in more handy through the night so you aren't having to play a juggling act with your bag and your cocktail on the dance floor!
