Paget Berry Reveals Where He Stands with Ciara Duggan After Their Breakup
The Below Deck Sailing Yacht alum shares whether he still keeps in touch with his former fiancée today.
Earlier this spring, Ciara Duggan confirmed that she and longtime boyfriend Paget Berry had broken up after getting engaged in July 2020. Now, Paget is providing some insight into where the former fiancés stand today.
While appearing as a special guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 stews Daisy Kelliher, Dani Soares, and Alli Dore's "Pita Party" Instagram chat on May 25, Paget revealed who he still keeps in touch with from Season 1 of the show, which still includes his ex-fiancée, Ciara. "I'm in contact with Jenna [MacGillivray] every now and again. Obviously, Ciara and I are in contact, but that's it, really," Paget shared. "We had like a WhatsApp group. I think Daisy was saying you guys had the same thing at some point. But yeah, it sort of just like filtered out. Everybody went their own directions, really."
Paget, who served as first mate in Season 1 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, also opened up about what it was like working with Ciara while they were still together, noting that they had worked together probably three out of the five years they were a couple. "It's stressful, especially if you're establishing your comfort with each other. There's so many things to consider, because you don't want to give couples a bad name in yachting sort of thing. You don't want to screw it up for the other couple who are looking for their dream job or something," Paget said. "And then, yeah, many times there are words. It's natural in a relationship that you argue or have issues, and you try to just keep it to your own quarters, really, and try to keep it out of the crew's hair."
Ciara previously shared what led to her and Paget's split during an interview with Us Weekly in April. “There were a lot of reasons that it kind of broke down. Being in France, we weren’t quarantining, we weren’t stuck together or anything like that,” she explained. “We were there just kind of living life, but you know I was taking temporary jobs and I just kind of realized throughout taking those jobs that I was happier on my own for a lot of reasons.”
She also confirmed that the breakup actually occurred in December 2020. “I loved him, but I think I was not in love,” Ciara said, adding, "I never really wanted to get married, if I’m being honest."
Ciara said at the time that there was no bad blood between her and Paget as they continued their friendship. “There’s no bad feelings between us and I wish him nothing but the best. I need to move on with my life and I need to do what I need to do for me, and he needs to do the same,” she said. “We’re still in good terms and we’re still friends. I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he finds someone who’s better suited … Neither of us is malicious, which is what matters. We have too much of a history to just not care about each other.”
The Below Deck Sailing Yacht alum shared that Below Deck Mediterranean's Jess More "was the first person I told and confided in" about her breakup with Paget, and she has been "really supportive," along with Captain Glenn Shephard. “I contacted Glenn pretty much as soon as we broke up, and I was like ‘Glenn, I need to talk to you. I need some fatherly advice,’" Ciara told Us Weekly. "So we had a long chat about it.”
For now, Paget is focusing on his career. He shared during the "Pita Party" chat on Instagram that he is currently working on a boat in Newport, Rhode Island. "Yeah, we're pretty much based here for the summer. And yeah, I don't know what else I'm really doing with my life, to be honest," Paget updated Daisy, Dani, and Alli. "I'm just gonna work and see where it goes. Save money."
