Kate Chastain Says She Anticipated a Rivalry with Hannah Ferrier
#BelowDeck's chief stew sounds off on the #BelowDeckMed crew.
Watching Ben Robinson's success with the ladies on Below Deck Mediterranean has given his Below Deck chief stew Kate Chastain some ideas. "I was just talking to Ben two days ago and said, 'You know, [the] next season you do, you need to go for [hooking up with] three cast members in one season. Like the Ben Grand Slam," Kate told The Daily Dish. "If I'm on it, we can grandfather me in, say that one already counts. So you'd have to do two, because he needs to up his game. Like, one a season, it's getting boring."
Kate is of course referring to all of the flirting and smooching Ben did while a part of the Below Deck Med cast, leaving us wondering if he and chief stew Hannah Ferrier would ever become more than just friends and literally going out with a bang during the crew's last night on the Ionian Princess when he hooked up with stewardess Tiffany Copeland.
Perhaps all of Ben's luck with the ladies was the result of him being the big man on campus, as Kate thought he seemed while watching the season from home. "I think Ben loved being on the Below Deck Med cast because he felt like a really big God because everybody else was new and looked up to him, so he was the only one who knew what he was doing," Kate explained. "And also, I think that the Mediterranean has a stigma of being more sophisticated, so Ben really felt like he could use his accent and his international knowledge more."
Ben wasn't the only Below Deck Med cast member Kate knew before the show premiered. "Well, Bobby [Giancola] from Below Deck Med is from my hometown [Melbourne, Florida], and I helped nudge him toward doing the yachting industry," Kate said. "I think he's great."
In fact, since Below Deck Med premiered, Kate said she has gotten friendly with nearly all of the Ionian Princess crew. "I would love to work with or just hang out with Hannah. We've actually chatted on Skype a few times. I think we're very similar. We have a lot of the same yachtie friends in the real yachting world. She's badass. I think everybody's pretty lovely. Jen [Riservato], the deckhand, and I have talked on the phone. Julia [d'Albert Pusey] seemed nice. Tiffany, I've met her a couple times at Ben's house. I think everyone was great."
But then Kate quickly corrected herself. "No, I met Bryan [Kattenburg]," she said. "And I've met him enough."
However, Kate actually anticipated feeling some animosity toward Hannah, who's also a chief stew on Below Deck Med. "I mean, I would be lying to say I wasn't at all feeling a little bit of potential rivalry because there's another chief stew and another Below Deck," Kate said. "It was kind of like, that's my counterpart. There's going to be comparisons."
Ultimately, Kate realized that more Below Deck, no matter where it takes place, is always a good thing. "But I think that she's so strong and the Med show is very different from the Caribbean show, and that's good," Kate explained.
OK, now we really want to see Kate and Hannah working on a yacht together. This Below Deck preview will just have to do until our dreams come true.
