Dorinda Medley Says Sonja Morgan "Knew What She Was Doing" by Giving Leah McSweeney That Outfit
"Sonja's remarkable at getting away with very naughty things," the RHONY cast member said.
New York Fashion Week always brings the drama for Bravolebs, and the New York Housewives are no exception. But it was an outfit that didn't appear on the runway that actually caused some major drama in the April 30 episode of The Real Housewives of New York City.
Sonja Morgan sent all of the New York Housewives an outfit to wear to her Sonja by Sonja Morgan runway show. However, Leah McSweeney wasn't feeling her selected ensemble of a gray cashmere tee and sweats, so she decided not to wear it to the event, but rather bring it along with her in a plastic bag and return it to Sonja. Of course, she also let Sonja know why she didn't appreciate being given such a casual look while the other New York Housewives received something more formal looking.
Sonja defended the outfit on Twitter while live tweeting the episode saying, "I really thought my leisure wear was better [than] my frilly lacy dresses."
Just as she mentioned during the episode, Sonja noted on Twitter that these pieces were featured in ELLE. "I love my cashmere set and I KNOW Leah would rock it," she tweeted. "She obviously is misreading my intentions."
She also explained why she chose a more casual look for Leah than the dress Tinsley Mortimer wore to her runway show. "I did think Leah would look cool. And never did I think she would wear what I gave [Tinsley]," Sonja said. "Which [by the way] looks great on you thanks for supporting."
After Sonja decided to do a quick change into the outfit and sport it during the event, Leah said in the episode that she couldn't stay mad at her new friend. Though Leah later came through with the receipts with a photo of the condition of the bag the clothing came in on Instagram, she also wrote, "#NothingButLoveForYouSonja," in the post.
Sonja denied that she was being passive aggressive by giving Leah that ensemble, but Dorinda Medley said she sees things differently. "I think that Sonja knew what she was doing, and she knew she'd get away with it," Dorinda said via video chat during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: @ Home on April 30. "Sonja's remarkable at getting away with very naughty things, and she has an incredible old-fashioned way of just laughing it off."
You needn't look any further than Sonja's interviews during the episode, where she seemed to address the situation with Leah with a wink, according to Dorinda. "You notice in her confessionals, she actually winks when she answers the question, if you study body language. When she said, 'Of course I didn't do that intentionally,' and her eye winks," Dorinda said. "So she knew what she was doing. Sonja is very, very clever."
When it comes to Sonja's fashion show as a whole, Dorinda said on WWHL: @ Home that she hopes Sonja is better prepared to put on an event like this in the future. "She was a nervous wreck about it. It kind of came upon her," Dorinda shared. "I wish there were music, and I wish she had planned a little bit more ahead because it seemed like she was planning it all during the Pamella Roland fashion show, and I think that intimidated her."
