Jeff Lewis Reveals He First "Broke up" with Gage Edward a Long Time Ago
Flipping Out's Jeff Lewis officially announced his separation from Gage Edward in January 2019.
Jeff Lewis announced that he and Gage Edward had officially separated after a decade together last month. However, it appears that the Flipping Out couple actually called it quits some time ago.
Jeff shared during the February 22 episode of his Radio Andy show Jeff Lewis Live that he tried to break up with Gage two years ago because he was feeling “betrayed and replaced." “I actually ended the relationship on Valentine’s Day 2017,” Jeff said, as reported by PEOPLE. “Our baby was 3 and a half months old but we were both miserable. I told him I did not want to be with him anymore. I broke up with him on that date.”
The Flipping Out designer then admitted that ever since then, he behaved in a way that he hoped would drive Gage to end the relationship. “Ever since then every action and every decision was basically to push him away,” Jeff shared, which he said he realized through therapy. “I needed him to leave me versus me to leave him.”
Jeff first shared the news that he and Gage had broken up during the January 31 episode of his radio show, revealing that the two had been sleeping in separate rooms for the better part of last year. “This has been a long time coming," Jeff said at the time. He added that "it was kind of like a roommate situation" and they were "friends with benefits" since they had still gotten intimate during that time.
Gage moved out of the Hollywood home he shared with Jeff and their 2-year-old daughter Monroe and into a hotel last month before finding an apartment.
Jeff and Gage have kept in close contact throughout this time, reuniting to take care of Monroe or sharing a "platonic" dinner out. Though Jeff initially saw that dinner as a sign that he and Gage were making "progress," the meal ended with Jeff walking out of the restaurant.
Jeff recently confirmed on his radio show that he and Gage still work together at Jeff Lewis Design amid their separation. “We’ve been very civil. It’s been civil,” he shared. “I want to be happy, and I want him to be happy.”
