Whether she's forming alliances with reality show contestants on The Traitors Season 2 or being a mom to her almost 1-year-old son, Sullivan, Below Deck alum Kate Chastain stays committed.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck on Peacock and the Bravo App.

It's hard for her not to be a hard worker, especially after putting in six seasons of being a Chief Stew on Below Deck before she stepping away from the industry in 2020 and placing fifth on The Traitors Season 1. And now she is taking her work ethic to motherhood.

Kate welcomed her son, Sullivan Cay, into the world in May 2023, and has continued to raise him on her own as a single mother. But, she has found that some elements of motherhood have surprised her.

Kate Chastain on how motherhood made her a "hypocrite"

Kate Chastain as a guest on Watch What Happens Live.

Although she is not a stranger to hard work, Kate said in an interview with TODAY on Feb. 13 that being a mom is "way more work" than she expected, especially after dealing with some pretty intense charter guests.

"I really thought over the years 'I can do motherhood. I did yachting.' It's so much more work than I expected," she shared. "But it's also so much more love than I expected."

She admitted that any thoughts that she had about what kind of a mom she would be were blown out of the water when she actually became one. "I was such a hypocrite when I was pregnant," she admitted. "I was like, 'I'm going to be a cool mom. This baby's going to fit into my life.' No. I know the words to every Miss Rachel song. I'm not a cool mom. The baby takes over. Buckle up."

Kate Chastain on filming The Traitors Season 2

Kate Chastain's son, Sullivan Kay, is seen sitting on the couch, playing with a remote and watching The Traitors.

Sullivan is really loving watching his mom on The Traitors Season 2, or at least, loving playing with the TV remote according to Kate's Instagram Stories. In a recent post to Kate's story, Sullivan was seen drinking from his bottle while watching The Traitors on the TV, and then grabbing for the TV remote over his fake teething remote.

As you can tell, things were a little different in Kate's life when she returned to film The Traitors Season 2. This time around, she had Sullivan in her life, which meant she had to leave him behind in the United States with family while she filmed the treacherous reality show in a Scotland castle.

"My mother watched him, and we also had a nanny and a night nurse," the Florida native explained to TODAY. "So yeah, he had a staff."

While she missed Sullivan during the filming of Season 2 of the Peacock series, she noted that it helped her remember who she was "before changing diapers." Plus, it didn't hurt that she was finally able to get eight hours of sleep each night again, too.

"There was a lot of fear to leave my baby for the first time at such a young age, for a long time," she said. "I had just been like, 'baby, baby, baby' for so long, it was really healthy for me to get into a world like the castle, and be around adults and just take a mental vacation from mom life."
