Leah McSweeney Explains How Boxing Helped Her Throughout the Rhode Island Trip
The RHONY newcomer says her trainer, Martin, gave her "a good talking to."
The Real Housewives of New York City newcomer Leah McSweeney is an avid boxer, as we’ve already seen twice this season when she hit the gym with Tinsley Mortimer. But for Leah, boxing isn’t just a workout used to stay in shape. In an interview with The Daily Dish, she explained that her time spent working with her trainer, Martin Snow, really helped her mentally prepare for life as a RHONY cast member.
“I mean, it’s such a psychological and mental strengthening exercise. It definitely helped me prepare,” said Leah, adding “I think what I’ve gotten out of it most is just Martin basically telling me to not try to not be crazy, and just embrace the crazy.”
Although the tools she’d gained helped her generally throughout the entire experience, there was one moment that Martin particularly helped guide her through.
“Obviously, it was kind of a rough trip for me in Rhode Island,” Leah said. “I had to make things right with some of the women. I went to Martin to help me prepare for that, and he did. He gave me a good talking to, and kind of helped me see maybe where my faults were. And you know, sometimes with these women, you just have to be the bigger person.”
During the May 28 episode where the 'Wives head to Rhode Island, Leah explained that "whatever happened" during the dinner party was "therapeutic," which certainly seems to be in line with Martin's "embrace your crazy" philosophy. Martin also believes that boxing is not necessarily about fighting.
“It’s easy to get drawn into a fight. But you don’t want to fight, you want to box,” said Martin. “These women get into fights, and it’s hard feelings and stuff like that. Why? At the end of the day, you’re not angry at somebody. You’re defiant.”
Before the episode aired, Leah opened up about the Rhode Island trip in an Instagram post, where she explained that she didn’t even really want to go in the first place.
“I went on this Rhode Island trip not really wanting to even go. I didn’t know the women that well at this point, and I was in an already vulnerable mood,” she wrote. “I wanted my sister there for support. She was also six months postpartum and looking forward to her first baby-free overnight trip. Moms: haven’t we all been there?”
