It Left Housewives in Tears and Sonja Morgan Fuming: The RHUGT Water Activity, Explained
The Housewives spent the morning on RHUGT doing Atma Janzu, the “aquatic art of deep relaxation," but one Housewife was feeling anything but tranquil bliss.
Whether it's visions of the womb or a sexual reverie, one thing is clear: Atma Janzu is a transformative experience for (nearly) everyone who participates.
The women of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: RHONY Legacy discovered that firsthand when they took part in the relaxing water activity during their trip to St. Barts.
The ocean experience had everyone feeling very zen — except Sonja Morgan, who somehow seemed more on edge after her session.
“This is honestly magical,” Kristen Taekman remarked. “My body is completely loose. I feel like an out-of-body experience and all of the craziness of this week is just gone.”
So, just what exactly is Atma Janzu?
What is Atma Janzu, the Water Activity in RHUGT?
According to Le Barthelemy Hotel, which offers the service in St. Barts, Altma Janzu is the “aquatic art of deep relaxation.”
“Close your eyes and trust the process by letting our skilled therapist guide you in a series of movements to loosen up your body and feel as if floating on a cloud,” its website promises.
The exercise is designed to stretch and decompress the muscles, while also improving mobility and promoting relaxation.
“Atma” itself is a Sanskrit word that signifies the self, according to the Atma Training and Development Center. Fittingly, the water-based sessions are designed to inspire a journey within oneself.
“The heart of this art of aquatic relaxation is based on the healing power of water as well as the presence, listening and kindness offered by the practitioner,” the center’s website explains.

The treatments can usually last anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour, depending on the client.
Before getting into the water with skilled guides Greg and Nanda, Greg explained to the Housewives that the sessions were “all based on letting go.”
“When we move your body around, you just have to let go of the tensions that we hold in our body,” he said.
How Did the Housewives React to Atma Janzu?
From above, the sessions looked like a beautiful, flowing water ballet as the guides seamlessly guided the floating Housewives from one position to another as they laid on their backs.
“I’m floating on the water. The sunlight is coming down. It feels like I’m this beautiful mermaid and I’m part of the universe,” Luann de Lesseps described the sensation.
The experience was so powerful it brought Dorinda Medley to tears and reminded her of being in her mother’s womb.
“I totally got how much my mother just loved me when I was a baby and she held me for the first time,” she tearfully explained just moments after getting out of the water.
“I felt I was in my mother’s arms being coddled, then I was so safe,” Luann added. “It was so nurturing. It was so beautiful.”
While Luann and Dorinda both described a maternal connection, Kelly Killoren Bensimon had a steamier experience.
“It was just like so sexual and I was like, whoa, like girls gone wild, hello,” she joked. “I was so horny.”
The only one who wasn’t feeling it? Sonja, who sputtered and coughed through her brief session.
“It’s not working. I’m fighting it 'cause I don’t want to feel my aches and pains,” she later confessed. “I can do this back home. I can stretch, I can do yoga. I can go and light my candle. No one goes to St. Barts to get in touch with themselves, they go to touch someone else.”
Sonja admitted that “maybe I’d be happier” if she had a sexual experience like Kelly, but ultimately just couldn’t get into the water treatment.
In fact, it seemingly left her more agitated than when she began.
“Obviously I’m the only one in the group that came out with my ass, like, tighter,” she admitted.
As the rest of the Housewives floated to lunch, Sonja complained about her wine, had a hilarious wardrobe malfunction, and sparred with Kristen, who was trying to share how joining The Real Housewives of New York City years earlier had impacted her female friendships.
“Emotionally I just felt I need to be done with these bitches and go back to my cave and relax for a little while,” Sonja said at lunch of what she thought of the treatment. “It’s been great, but I need to go.”
It seems maybe Atma Janzu isn’t for everyone.
