Dr. Jackie Walters Shares How She Turned "Pain Into Purpose"
The Married to Medicine doctor has faced her share of adversity, but here's why she's "still standing."
Dr. Jackie Walters is proof that a positive attitude is the best medicine. Sharing an Instagram video about “how to turn your pain into purpose,” the Married to Medicine doctor explained that though she’s been through it the past two and a half decades, she is still thriving, nonetheless.
“How do you survive 25 years as a black female OB/GYN business owner, two bouts of breast cancer, infertility, infidelity, 9 years of reality TV, 20 years of marriage, being a doctor in a pandemic, and still standing, smiling, being happy, healthy and working on wealthy???" Jackie captioned the September 2 post.
Set to Des'ree’s 1994 hit, “You Gotta Be,” the video revealed the secret is in the song’s lyrics. As she concluded, “Well [you’ve] gotta be bad, bold, wiser, harder, tougher, stronger, and stay together…”
That mantra — accompanied by a stellar soundtrack — certainly seems to be serving Jackie well, as she’s also been documenting her booked and busy summer on social media. What’s more, she’s been spreading her motivational messages, not to mention getting inspired herself, outside of Instagram, too. On August 15, for example, the OB-GYN shared highlights from her talk at the Activate H.E.R Conference during Women and Wine Weekend in Atlanta. “So inspiring to see women from all over the country come together for such a powerful event,” she wrote, adding Beyoncé’s “Energy,” featuring Beam, as her song of choice.
In fact, Queen Bey seems to reign supreme when it comes to her pump-up music at work, too. After a “long day” at the office, Jackie waved goodbye and threw up her deuces as she strutted out the door in an August 25 Instagram video that featured Beyoncé’s “Summer Renaissance.” Among her hashtags were “mood” and “I love my job.”
The next day, she was back at it, starting her day early in the operating room with her “dream team” for robotic surgery day. Calling that “Fri-yay” an “amazing day” in an August 26 Instagram caption, Jackie remained thankful as her weekend got started. “It feels good to be alive to see one more Friday in life,” she wrote, adding "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan. “I know you love the day just as much as I do.”
It hasn’t been all work and no play though. Proving she can make time for what’s important, no matter how busy her life gets, Jackie surprised her mom in Mississippi on her 80th birthday earlier in the month. “I had her fooled I could not make it,” the physician captioned an August 19 post. “I would never have missed this 80th birthday for no reason!”
