Meghan King Confirms Split from Cuffe Owens: "This Situation Is Profoundly Devastating"
The news of the RHOC alum's breakup comes a little more than two months after the couple's wedding.
Following recent reports that Meghan King and Cuffe Owens had split after two months of marriage, The Real Housewives of Orange County alum confirmed the breakup on Instagram on Monday, December 27.
Meghan addressed her current relationship status in a statement in her Instagram Stories. "I've been asked by many outlets and individuals to comment on the state of my marriage," the statement began. "I am rattled. This situation is profoundly devastating. This is obviously not what I imagined when I made my vows — and I'm shocked and saddened by the way things turned out. I am moving forward with my children as we privately process our pain and begin to let go of shattered dreams."
She concluded her message, "At this time I ask for your grace and gentle kindness as I navigate this labyrinth of grief with my family."
Meghan and Cuffe wed in October at his parents' home in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Cuffe, who is a Los Angeles-based attorney, is the son of President Joe Biden's sister and advisor, Valerie Owens.
Meghan first went public with her relationship with Cuffe on Instagram in September. Following her October wedding, Meghan opened up to Brides about her whirlwind courtship. "We connected on a dating app, texted for a day or two, then spent five straight hours on the phone the first time we spoke," she recalled of how she and Cuffe first met and started dating. "By the time that call ended, Cuffe was booked and packed for a flight to St. Louis that took off in about eight hours. Within a week, we were back on the East Coast, meeting his family, and starting to plan our future together. We didn’t leave each other’s side for weeks."
This was the third marriage for Meghan, whose second marriage to Jim Edmonds was featured on RHOC during her time as a cast member in Seasons 10 through 12. Meghan and Jim announced their divorce in 2019 after five years of marriage. They have three children together: daughter Aspen, 5, and 3-year-old twin sons, Hart and Hayes.
Last week, it was all about family for Meghan as she spent Christmas with her loved ones. "A glimpse into Christmas Eve at our home," Meghan captioned one Instagram post that featured videos of her kids waiting for Santa Claus's arrival. "This year was small and casual: No fuss, no frills, just family and a ton of magic."
Prior to confirming her breakup from Cuffe, Meghan shared a video on Instagram in which she said that she had been experiencing "some anxiety and depression" lately. To cope, Meghan said that she had been doing activities like hot yoga, "drinking tons of water," and "getting fresh air," as well as "actually feeling my feelings," "reducing social media," "being present," and "embracing and LOVING all of myself."
Meghan captioned the December 26 Instagram post, "I’m still me and I love myself."
