When Nene Leakes' husband Gregg Leakes was diagnosed with cancer in June 2018, their lives definitely changed. Since the diagnosis, Gregg has undergone surgery and different treatments and Nene has taken on the role of a caregiver. Now, The Real Housewives of Atlanta couple wants to give back and help those similarly afflicted with the disease.
On February 1, Nene posted an Instagram photo of the couple, with the caption, "You are looking at your newest American Cancer Society Ambassadors... the Leakes [American Cancer Society] Let’s kill cancer."
According to the American Cancer Society's site, "American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network℠, ACS CAN, volunteers work to make sure our leaders take real steps toward finishing the fight against cancer ... ACS CAN Ambassadors make a larger impact and help play a crucial role in establishing relationships with elected officials. As an Ambassador, you will help organize activity in your community, and even more involved Ambassador positions are available for those wishing to be team, Congressional district, or state leads." The position requires a two-year commitment to participate regularly.
This isn't the first time Gregg's cancer diagnosis inspired the couple to get involved in the fight against cancer. In December, Nene announced Gregg started a charitable website, can-sir.org, which she says aims to bring "more awareness to this dreadful disease called CANCER!" According to the site, purchases benefit the American Cancer Society.
