How to Watch

Watch Married to Medicine now streaming on Peacock and the Bravo App.

The Married to Medicine cast member demonstrated this on Saturday, May 18, when she delivered an inspiring — and very on-brand — commencement speech for the University of Georgia School of Law. It was a full-circle moment for Phaedra, as she received her Juris Doctorate from the university in 1998 and has since become the Law School Alumni Council president.

The Athens-born multi-hyphenate shared the big moment in a series of Instagram posts, which included photos of her rocking academic regalia and a few snaps of her oldest son, Ayden Nidan.

“Saturday was one of the best days of my life!” she captioned a May 20 post. “As the [President] of [UGA] Law school alumni association, I had the pleasure of welcoming our 2024 graduates to our alumni family! I love my UGA [hashtag] 4thgeneration. Go DAWGS!”

The post showed Phaedra shaking hands with the Class of 2024 and featured clips of her moving yet comedic commencement speech.

“I can remember my own day when I graduated,” she recalled during her address. “It was very, very different from this because it was outdoors. It was very hot, very humid. Lots of bugs were involved in my ceremony. That day ignited a lifelong relationship with the University of Georgia and the School of Law, in particular… [UGA] law school boasts everything from judges, governors, mayors… to even people who maybe choose to dip their toes in entertainment.”

Phaedra told the audience she and the alumni council were fully committed to the graduates’ success, so much so that she recently proposed a motion for loan relief.

“Our commitment is total, it is whole, and it is absolute,” she continued, “And it is so absolute that yesterday, during our board meeting, I made a motion to put in a line item for $100,000 to help those who have loans repay them.”

Phaedra speaks on her funeral directing career

Phaedra is a fourth-generation graduate of UGA and is now the managing partner of the Atlanta-based law firm The Parks Group. The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum specializes in several areas of law, including entertainment, intellectual property rights, as well as civil and criminal litigation.

In addition to her law career, the mother of two is also a mortician/funeral director. She spoke about the latter job in a 2022 interview with The Daily Dish, explaining why she was so drawn to the industry.

“… With the funeral home, that is my artistic outlet where I can paint and play with science and bodies and all the nice feely things that I like to do that’s not so black-and-white like the law,” she said. “So everything is really going good. I have no complaints. No complaints whatsoever.”
