At the beginning of the competition series, mentor Christian Siriano and judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell, and Elaine Welteroth welcomed back 14 of the most beloved designers from across 19 seasons to battle it out for the coveted Project Runway All-Stars title.

Now, after 12 nerve-wracking challenges that pushed the textile connoisseurs out of their comfort zones, a winner has officially been crowned on Project Runway, earning them a $250,000 prize, a mentorship with the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), and a feature in Elle magazine.

On the Season 20 finale (which aired on September 7), finalists Brittany Allen, Bishme Cromartie, and Laurence Basse left it all on the runway by pushing themselves to create an eight-look final collection for New York Fashion Week.

The three designers were each given $10,000 and eight days to complete their most challenging tasks yet, but only one competitor’s designs could come out on top.

Who won Project Runway Season 20?

The winner of Project Runway Season 20 is… Bishme Cromartie.

Bishme’s dreams came true when he snagged the career-defining win and earned bragging rights as the winner of Bravo’s Project Runway All-Stars.

For his final collection, Bishme designed a collection that embodied the message of “powering through,” an ode to the “stronger version of yourself” when things get tough. He created eight fashion-forward pieces with the assistance of designer/fifth-place finisher Prajjé Oscar Jean-Baptiste.

The piece that encapsulated his overall vision and won over the judges was his closing look, a stunning gown featuring a long-sleeved black mesh bodice and exaggerated ruffles at the bottom made of tulle. In Bishme’s words, “This dress actually represents anxiety that you overpower to… turn into something positive.”

Bishme Cromartie discusses winning Project Runway Season 20

Bishme Cromartie full of emotion after winning the Project Runway Season 20 competition.

Bishme reflected on his life-changing win in a confessional on the Season 20 finale.

“I’ve dreamed of winning Project Runway ever since I first [saw] Christian on his season,” he said. “And to be here a second time and win, it honestly feel[s] like the kid in me is just extremely proud and just excited as hell.”

The Los Angeles–based designer also opened up about his late sister, who helped him “blossom” into the man he is today.

“I owe this win to my sister. My biggest fan,” Bishme explained. “The first person who didn’t judge me for doing something outside the norm, and she was there to allow me to blossom and fall deeply in love with my creativity.”

He added, “I know my sister is looking down and just happy and smiling from ear to ear.”
