When Kandi Met Todd

While filming was underway for the RHOA Season 4 cast trip to South Africa, the duo caught each other's eye. At the time, Todd was a line producer and Kandi was, of course, a cast member (she joined RHOA in Season 2).

"I was trying to play it cool in Africa as it's against the rules to cross the line with the talent," Todd told BravoTV.com in 2014. "In Production that's a big NO NO! … I loved her smile, she had a great butt! LOL! She seemed very humble and genuine."

Soon after, the pair began dating and, after around two years together, Todd proposed to Kandi in January 2013. Following their engagement, the XSCAPE member gave some behind-the-scenes insight into their professional relationshipnoting that Todd quit working on RHOA so they could be together.

"That was a big decision for him to have to make. He resigned, but then they came back and said they didn't want him to quit. He still works with the same production company, but he doesn't work on our show. It wasn't that much of a conflict because he didn't work on set," she told Glamour. "I don't think it was a big deal, but we kept our relationship secret at first because we didn't know how the production company or network would think or feel about it."

Were Kandi and Todd Always Meant to Be?

Fans might remember Kandi's experience with a South African medicine man in Season 4 Episode 14. Much to her surprise, she was told she'd be getting married soon.

"He is with you. He is going with you everywhere," the man said.

It was on that very trip that her and Todd connected.

"He said my husband was with me at that moment. Of course I was thinking he didn't know what the hell he was talking about," Kandi wrote in a 2016 Facebook post. "The crazy thing is that Todd was there! He was watching the scene with the rest of the crew. At that time I had saw him maybe once but had never spoke or had a conversation with him."

Kandi and Todd's Camera-Ready Wedding

It's only fair for a relationship that began with Bravo to have its own spinoff, right? In April 2014, the Tuckers said "I do" at a Coming to America-themed wedding. Fans were able to enjoy the nuptials up close and personal when they were broadcast as a RHOA-spinoff, Kandi's Weddingin June of that year.

"I wanted no part of planning the wedding," Todd told BravoTV.com. "I just wanted to enjoy our wedding day! It was a big production, and I didn't want to have to deal with vendors being on time as I walked down the aisle."

The glamorous wedding, which cost more than $400,000 and wrapped up after 2 a.m., featured performances from music icons like Doug E. Fresh, Musiq Soulchild, and Bell Biv Devoe. Kandi's $20,000 Reco Chapple gown came complete with 12-foot train.

"As I was walking down the aisle, I could not stop smiling. I lose control when I'm too excited or too happy, so I was grinning the whole time," Kandi told BravoTV.com in an post-wedding interview. "And I hate when I do that, because I look back at the pictures and I'm like, 'Oh my God, I look crazy!'"

The Burruss-Tucker Family

When Kandi and Todd met, they were both parents to daughters from previous relationships, Riley and Kaela. Since then, the couple have welcomed a son and a daughter, Ace (born in 2016) and Blaze (born in 2019).

The couple have shared their journey expanding their family with fertility treatments and surrogacy on RHOA

"For me, it was like clearly I have not been getting pregnant ... it's just not happening," Kandi explained in an interview at The Daily Dish HQ in 2018. "Luckily, it was a blessing we was able to get Ace through IVF, but in the process of doing IVF, we still have two more embryos. And with that being said, as soon as we had Ace, we knew that we would want to possibly use our other embryos, but I had a high-risk pregnancy last time, so that's why we decided we would consider surrogacy."

These days, both the Burruss-Tucker children are thriving.

“Ace is acting now, so we do audition tapes together,” Kandi shared during a Season 14 episode of RHOA. “I go over his roles with him. I think it’s fun.”

Making It Work

In October 2022, Kandi opened up about what makes her relationship with Todd work in an interview with PEOPLE: understanding, great communication, and having fun together.

"Sometimes I feel like, especially when you are a woman who has dreams and goals, you don’t always meet a man who is going to support your dreams and goals and keep pushing you," the music producer said, adding that Todd feels like her "teammate."

Kandi on Seeing Her Relationship Documented on RHOA

Although Todd and Kandi met through RHOA, they prefer not to watch episodes together.

At BravoCon 2022, Kandi told the audience of the "Atlanta Peaches in NYC" panel that she “[hates] to watch arguments back” because she has to “go through it three times”: when it happens, when it airs, and at the reunion. Calling this rehashing “so annoying,” she noted that Todd feels the same way.

“Even when my husband and I would sometimes see old reruns of certain shows, certain seasons, we can’t go back and watch together because he gets in his feelings about it,” she explained. “Then it brings up certain things that he feels a way about. So it’s like, yeah, I’d rather not watch it with him, certain episodes that I know are going to be touchy.”
