Sanya Richards-Ross Opens Up on Her Miscarriage Prior to Her Current Pregnancy

Hear the RHOA cast member share her story, which thankfully has a happy ending.

Sanya Richards-Ross shared in an earlier episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 15 that she was pregnant with her second child, but on the finale — Episode 16, which aired on Aug. 28 — she delivered the heartbreaking news that just two months after learning she and her husband Aaron Ross were expecting, she experienced "a traumatic miscarriage."

Thankfully, the couple's story has a happy ending. Read on to hear how Sanya told it on the RHOA Season 15 finale.

Sanya Richards-Ross' Pregnancy Loss

As production noted in the episode, RHOA Season 15 initially wrapped filming in January, but picked back up on March 1 after Drew Sidora filed for divorce from Ralph Pittman. The timing, it turns out, coincided with Sanya's experience, so she decided to open up about what happened.

Speaking to her mother, Sharon, Sanya began by noting that her body "still [hadn't] recovered." From there, she continued in a confessional interview, "Everything was fine at my five-week checkup, but when I went back to [Married to Medicine]'s Dr. Jackie [Walters] for my seven-week checkup, she told me that the baby wasn't growing and it looked like it was no longer a viable pregnancy."

Sanya learned she would need to undergo a particular procedure known as a "D&C," but at the time, she was preparing to travel to New York City. The trip was set to be brief, though, so she said she arranged to have the procedure upon her return.

"I go to New York thinking I'd be fine and make it back in time — and I had the most traumatic miscarriage," Sanya shared, getting emotional. "I was rushing off in an ambulance to the hospital. I lost so much blood that I had to get a blood transfusion. Especially not having Ross there, being by myself, it was really, really hard."

Even harder, though, was breaking the news to her and Ross' son, Aaron "Deucey" Ross. Recounting that part brought Sanya and her mom to tears, but their conversation ended on a hopeful note — as did Sanya's portion of the extended finale, because it ended with an update that read, "[Sanya] and Ross immediately got back to work growing their family. And now they're pregnant again!"

That's right: The Rosses are expecting their second child, and Sanya's due on December 25, 2023.

“It’s going to be the best Christmas gift ever, but I just couldn’t be happier and more clear about. I know I can do this. I’ve done it before. I have the support. I know what to expect,” she told People in July. “I’m so ready to meet this little one.”

To commemorate the exciting news, Sanya and her family did a photo shoot.

“I’ve never felt more beautiful,” she said about the images. “Just so happy to have these pictures to mark this time in my life. It’s been a hard journey getting here, but I am so glad for the obstacles ’cause they made me that much stronger.”

You can hear more from Sanya by tuning in to the upcoming RHOA Season 15 reunion. While backstage, she further elaborated on her current pregnancy, telling BravoTV.com, "God is good, God restores, because I am pregnant again, expecting my second. I'm so excited."

"Obviously in this group of friends, we go through a lot," Sanya added, "but the one thing I will say is that I always do feel that love and genuine support when something great is happening."
