Details on Shep Rose's Family History
Let's take a closer look back at Shep's family. He is related to the Boykin family through his paternal grandmother, he told The Post and Courier in January 2016. As it turns out, the Boykin family also has a dog named after it: the Boykin spaniel. This dog was originally bred by South Carolina hunters, according to the American Kennel Club's website. It is said that after a small dog was found wandering near a Methodist church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, it was sent to train with a man named L. Whitaker Boykin, who taught it how to help hunters. The Boykin spaniel eventually became South Carolina's state dog. While Shep is a dog dad, Lil Craig isn't a Boykin spaniel but a Frenchie and splits his time with Shep and Shep's parents.
Shep also revealed on Southern Charm previously that one of his family members was immortalized in one of the most iconic novels of all time, The Great Gatsby. "The character in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald named Jordan Baker, that's my great aunt. It was written after her," Shep shared on the show in the past, adding that his great-grandfather was also a two-time NCAA champion in golf. "She's a champion golfer, so I've got golf in my blood."
Shep later shared on Twitter (now called X) that his great aunt, Edith Cummings, was friendly with Fitzgerald, and she was quite the trailblazer for women in sports as the first female athlete to be featured on the cover of TIME magazine in 1924. Other members of his family have also been included in PBS documentaries.
In addition to all that, Shep's cousin, Marcie Hobbs, also appeared on Southern Cham. According to her BravoTV.com profile: "Marcie is Shep’s younger cousin who has lived all over the world but has now settled in Charleston. Marcie and Shep have always been close, and she is one of the few people who can ask Shep the hard-hitting questions without feeling his wrath. Despite having enough family money to not have to work, she became a successful real estate agent."
She's also a mom to two kids that she shares with her husband, John, and often shares updates on her life on Instagram.
