Things are heating up on Last Chance Kitchen. Following the April 2 episode of Bravo's Top Chef, two All Stars faced off in a very literal game of chicken.

Chef Joe Sasto (Season 15), who won the first Last Chance Kitchen challenge this season after creating an impressive seafood dish, is back to compete against recently eliminated Jamie Lynch (Season 14). Jamie was sent home after a poultry dish went wrong.

“It’s pretty frustrating to be out of the competition so early,” Jamie explained. “I haven’t had a whole lot of success with chicken in this competition. I would love to be able to come out on top. Winning the title of Top Chef would be pretty amazing, and I could use the 250 grand.”

Although Joe was fresh off a win, Jamie was pretty confident be reentering Last Chance Kitchen. During his last visit, he accomplished a four episode winning streak, and was hoping to find that success once again. However, Tom asked Jamie why he was sent home, the All Star chef wasn’t quick to accept the blame.

“I think I’m here because my dish was the last one to get tasted in my group, and it turned out pretty dry,” he said. “Oh. Got it. It was kinda hammered,” replied host Tom Colicchio. Still, Jamie disagreed, even though the judges had seemed to agree that it was overcooked.

“How about we play a little game of chicken?” challenged Tom. “For this challenge, you get one whole chicken to create whatever dish you want. Obviously, you need to use the chicken. Pretty easy, right?”

But when the chefs asked how much time they would have to complete the task, Tom turned the question back around to create a true game of chicken. “How much time do you think you need?” he asked.

After some back and forth between Jamie and Joe, they eventually landed on 20 minutes to cook the meal. They went through the same process to decide how many ingredients they could use, and ended up being able to only utilize seven things total.

“It’s going to be really hard to put up a creative dish when you only have six other ingredients you can use,” said Jamie.

Joe, on the other hand, welcomed the challenge. “I actually kind of like being limited on the number of ingredients that I use, because otherwise I feel I often end up putting too many things into a dish.”
