The book, which is expected to hit shelves in May 2022, will recount Wendy’s complex and deeply emotional relationship with her mother, Susan Okuzu, while also diving into how her Nigerian upbringing has impacted her life and her role as a mother today.

Motherhood is a layered concept and being able to examine it through this book from my lens of an immigrant and mother of three has opened my eyes to the many ways we as mothers carry the weight of our past into not only our future but that of our children,” Wendy told PEOPLE of the book.

The professor and political analyst also opened up about the upcoming project on her Instagram. “I’m so excited to announce my upcoming book Tears Of My Mother. Being a part of the @simonandschuster
