Will SWV and XSCAPE Tour Together Again? The Surprising Answer After The Girl Groups Clash
The members of SWV share their feelings on arguing with XSCAPE over billing, who was the more popular 90s R&B group, and who has more fans.
Was it all worth it?
That’s the big question SWV’s Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George poses at the end of the mega-collaboration concert in the finale of SWV & XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B. The answer from the ladies may surprise you.
The girl groups butted heads throughout the series as they tried to plan the collab, with one of the biggest feuds about billing. Which group should headline? Who sold more albums? Who is a more famous name? Who has more social media followers? The ladies argued over all that and more, with SWV saying XSCAPE was more relentless with the fight.
“I mean, one thing about them girls, boy, you saying something about them, they will go on a campaign to prove their point,” said SWV’s Leanne “LeLee” Lyons to The Daily Dish in an interview.
SWV’s Cheryl “Coko” Gamble said the fans were divided in their loyalties.
“But I felt like [XSCAPE] was just trying to devalue who SWV is, and what we contributed to this music business, you know?” Coko explained to The Daily Dish.
Lelee said the fan response on social media to the clashes was the worst part for her of the whole experience, and commented many were “kinda coming at me sideways.”
“I mean, you come from the '90s where there was, like, everybody was winning. You had all the girl groups doing great things and we all kinda supported each other,” Lelee said. “And to see us have this great opportunity to do something great, and to see the fans just feeling like they have to choose one over the other — I didn’t like that part. I didn’t like that.”
Taj said she wished the groups hadn’t argued with each other over who was more important.
“I think it would have been best to just resolve that whole debate if both groups stepped back and let the fans just talk,” Taj told The Daily Dish. “For other people to get involved and decide they know what’s best, it led people to believe them.”

After the concert, all the ladies agreed it was, in fact, worth it, answering Taj’s question, as seen on the finale of SWV x XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B.
When Taj then asked if they’d do it again, LeLee said she would, and when XSCAPE’s Kandi Burruss also said she would, Coko replied with a surprised, “What!?”
“If we could do what we did at such a last-minute scramble, I feel like what if we really could rehearse for a long period of time before we got to the show,” Kandi said in the finale. “That show would be killer.”
As for if an SWV and XSCAPE tour is in the works … TBD, according to show producers in the finale credits.
