Shep Rose Gives an Update on Lil' Craig

In the years since Shep Rose welcomed his dog, Lil Craig, into his life, the pooch has become a bit of a celebrity around Charleston, much to the chagrin of the other Craig in Shep’s life, Craig Conover.

How to Watch

Watch Southern Charm on Peacock and the Bravo App.

“I hear about it a lot, you know. And people, [for] some reason, people coming in the [pillow] store just think Lil Craig is gonna be there. And, like, I don’t know where Lil Craig is. Stop asking me,” Craig shared in a recent interview with The Daily Dish. And while he said that “he’s been” to Sewing Down South in the past, ultimately, “no, he’s not [ever at the store].”

Shep did note that when Lil Craig was at the store, the appearances were a hit with customers. “It was awesome. It was awesome. People went crazy,” the Southern Charm cast member recalled, joking, “He needs an agent.”

We do know where Lil Craig is when he’s not making a rare cameo at Sewing Down South in Charleston. Currently, he’s summering with Shep’s parents.

“Oh, he’s so great. He’s with my parents in the North Carolina mountains. Lil Craig summers in North Carolina,” Shep said. “He doesn’t breathe all that well in the heat, and he’s got a dark coat and the sun bakes him. He loves the mountains ’cause it’s cool at night. And during the day, it’s not so hot. And my parents love him.”

(Shep spills more Lil Craig details in the throwback video above.)

By the way, in case you’ve ever wondered why Shep decided to name his dog after his friend, well, we’ve got that answer for you as well. “The genesis of Lil Craig is this: My dad was a lawyer for many years. He’s retired now. And he had a client that owned a giant farm. And the client affectionately named a mule after my dad,” Shep revealed with a laugh. “My dad’s name is Rip, so one of the mules was named Rip. I was a child at the time, and I just thought that was so funny. So it’s an homage, trust me. And a jab.”

(BTW, you can hear more about Shep’s parents and family in the vintage The Daily Dish video below.)
