After 12 years together, and two years of marriage, on Tuesday it was announced that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt would be divorcing. The Oscar-winning actress reportedly filed from divorce on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. And now Brad is addressing the split in a statement to PEOPLE.
"I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids," he said. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Angelina commented through her longtime manager Geyer Kosinski, who told E!, "Angelina will always do what's in the best interest of taking care of her family. "She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time."
Together the couple have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox. Angelina is asking for physical custody of the children and wants the judge to give Brad visitation and not joint physical custody. She is not asking for spousal support. Angelina is being repped by Hollywood divorce queen Laura Wasser and lists the date of separation as September 15, 2016.
