Christian Siriano Designed Laverne Cox's Show-Stopping Gown for the 2021 Oscars
The Project Runway mentor's extravagant design used over 1,000 yards of vibrant fuchsia and black tulle.
Christian Siriano has an impressive track record when it comes to the Academy Awards. The Project Runway mentor has designed some of the most memorable dresses to ever have graced the A-list event, including Billy Porter’s internet-breaking tuxedo gown in 2019 and Alicia Silverstone's glittery number in 2020. And at the 93rd annual spectacular, Christian was responsible for another jaw-dropping red carpet moment.
On April 25, Laverne Cox attended the Hollywood awards ceremony in a bright and dreamy gown from Christian's Fall/Winter 2021 ready-to-wear collection. With a deep v-neck top and dramatic tiers of fuchsia and black tulle that seemed to go on and on, the romantic design was a true show-stopper. The incredible frock used over 1,000 yards of tulle and was inspired by an "inside out fuchsia orchid," Christian told InStyle. "I think what’s important is that this dress has so many dimensions," he added. "Parts are sheer, graphic, the cold color is powerful but the dress is still soft and romantic."
Laverne accessorized the whimsical dress with a few statement rings and pink-accented drop earrings. Her hair was styled into a high bun with a couple of loose tendrils. She topped it all off with glowing glam featuring pink eyeshadow and a glossy nude lip.
Absolutely gorgeous.
