Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen Celebrate a Major Milestone: "We Found a New Happy Place"
The RHONY alum rang in her hubby's 60th birthday with a South Pacific getaway.
Alex McCord is living her best life.
On Thursday, March 14, The Real Housewives of New York City alum took to Instagram to share a quick but heartwarming update on her marriage. The Kansas-raised mom posted a photo of her and her husband, Simon van Kempen, posing together on a New Caledonian beach. Alex confirmed she had gone to the island to celebrate another milestone for her husband of 25 years.
“Ushering in 60 for the love of my life [Simon van Kempen],” she captioned the post. “It looks great on you! And we found a new happy place…”

Simon also documented the getaway on his Instagram, where he shared a picture of his fun-filled beach day as well as a sweet message for his wife.
“This is 60! Greetings from New Caledonia,” he captioned the snap, which showed him standing in the water. “As I commence my seventh decade on this planet, I am blessed to share it, as I have for the last 25 years, with [Alex McCord].”
What has Alex McCord been up to since exiting RHONY?
After leaving the Bravo-verse in 2011, the RHONY alum has experienced many major changes in both her professional and home life, such as her pursuit of a PhD and her family's move out of Brooklyn. And, no, they didn’t just leave the borough; they left the Western Hemisphere.
It was about 10 years ago when Alex and Simon relocated to Australia with their two sons, Johan and Francois. The couple explained the decision in a 2014 interview with The Daily Dish, saying it was important for them to return to Simon’s home country.
“After 18 years in New York for Alex, and 28 years outside Australia for Simon, we’ve made the decision to move to Australia to be with family,” they said. “Over the last few years, all of Simon’s family have reconvened from as far as Europe to all live within 20 minutes of each other on a collection of beautiful beaches on the north coast of New South Wales. We are the last of the family to move back, and it’s time.”
Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen return to the Big Apple
Since then, Alex and Simon have shared many looks at their post-Bravo life and their time as empty-nesters. The couple and their now-adult sons recently returned to the Big Apple for a holiday vacation, which included a trip to the Metropolitan Opera, tickets to the Broadway play Merrily We Roll Along, and a stop at the former Brooklyn brownstone.
“Some more places and people from our NYC trip…” Alex captioned a January 15 Instagram, which documented her NYC vacation. “Impossible to pack 20 years or 16 years or 11 years or 9 years into a week, so we enjoyed every minute and did some touristy things we had never done before as well, just because.”
