Malia White Says She's Changed Since Her First Season of Below Deck Med
The bosun will have many updates to share when Below Deck Med returns for Season 5.
Malia White wants you to know she's not the same deckhand we met back in Season 2 of Below Deck Mediterranean.
Following the news earlier this week that Malia would be returning to Below Deck Med, this time as bosun, in the new season premiering Monday, June 1 at 9/8c, she took to Instagram to open up about how much she has grown as a person and in her career since she was last cruising around Croatia as part of the Sirocco crew.
"Yes, I’m back as Bosun! My life changed after my first season on Below Deck - I left my office job [and] pursued a career in yachting," she said in a post on Instagram on April 30. "I’ve grown up, learned [and] accomplished a lot these past few years and I’m excited to share my journey from deckhand to Bosun. Hopefully inspiring anyone else who wants to make a change in their life!"
Malia also had a message for anyone hating on the more senior role she's taking on in the new season of Below Deck Med. "People will always come up with reasons why you don’t deserve it or why you’ll fail - prove them wrong!" she wrote in the post. "Your past doesn’t have to write your future."
Malia is more than ready for all of the responsibilities being bosun will bring — and she's got the qualifications to back it up. Since Season 2, Malia has continued working on super yachts and climbed up the ranks over the years. She even got her captain's license.
Captain Sandy Yawn has come to Malia's defense on Twitter after fans questioned her decision to hire her as bosun. She also said that she sees great potential in her crew member. "Captain @maliakpwhite! I’m so proud of you," Captain Sandy wrote in the comments to Malia's Instagram post. "You belong on a bridge."
Malia will be making history as the first female bosun in Below Deck history in the new season, rounding out the girl power already brought to the Med by Captain Sandy and Hannah Ferrier, who will also be returning as chief stew in Season 5. They will be joined by new crew members Chef Hindrigo "Kiko" Lorran, stews Lara Flumiani and Jessica More, and deckhands Pete Hunziker, Alex Radcliffe, and Robert Westergaard.
