Kate Chastain Weighs in on the Below Deck Med Season 4 Interior Drama

The Below Deck chief stew definitely agrees more with some of the crew members than others.

By Laura Rosenfeld

Captain Sandy Yawn lit a fire under the interior team toward the end of this season of Below Deck Mediterranean after expressing that she felt like their work wasn't up to her standards. Ben Robinson was also pretty vocal about the stews, saying that he felt like chief stew Hannah Ferrier's close relationship with her subordinates was getting in the way of her leadership.

The stews and fans alike seemed to have been a bit confused by Captain Sandy and Ben's critique of the interior team this season of Below Deck Med, so Below Deck chief stew Kate Chastain gave her take after one fan shared their reaction to the Season 4 finale on Twitter. "I wasn’t there Marci but I do know that both Ben and Sandy are excellent examples of yachting professionals with many years of experience and I trust their judgment," Kate said. "They weren’t upset the stews were getting along, they were upset it was at the cost of guest experience."

After having some time off the boat, Hannah said during the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4 After Show that she now understands where Captain Sandy was coming from when she questioned her passion for yachting this season (clip above). "I am passionate about traveling and earning money. I'm passionate about the guests. I love giving the guests a really good experience and seeing them leave and having a good time," Hannah said. "Table decor, cleaning toilets, making beds — [I'm] not so passionate about."

Hannah said that Kate can also relate to losing a bit of passion for the job after so many seasons in yachting. "Me and Kate were actually laughing the other day because we're like, we go and do charter seasons now like kind of real yachties because we're like, you've just got to put your head down and bum up and have the best thing and all the tips and then you can not do it for a little while afterwards, you know?" she explained.

Despite a tense final charter, Captain Sandy and Hannah ended the season on good terms. "Although it wasn’t always smooth sailing, @HannahFerrier put out some amazing décor this last charter," Captain Sandy tweeted during the season finale. "She is an incredible person and a wonderful chief stew! Thank you for your hard work this season."

Hannah's stews Aesha Scott and Anastasia Surmava had some thoughts on Captain Sandy's comments about the interior crew during the September 30 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Check it out, below.
