After residing in Colorado for the past several years, the Below Deck Mediterranean boss is ready to return to her home state of Florida. Captain Sandy made this clear via Instagram this week when she posted a video of her and her partner’s glorious beach day.

“Me, Leah [Shafer], and the seagulls enjoying some of the best beaches in Florida,” she captioned the March 28 post. “Soon we will be calling Florida home.”

Captain Sandy Yawn reveals her Florida home builder went "MIA"

In 2019, Captain Sandy relocated to Denver to live with her girlfriend-turned-fiancée, Leah, a gospel singer/esthetician she met through Facebook. The couple announced they had purchased a Florida property for $1.6 million back in January and hired a construction company to transform the house into their “dream home.” However, the excitement surrounding the project quickly turned into frustration, as Captain Sandy realized the developer — Pineapple Corporation of Jacksonville Inc. — had left the home unfinished without any explanation.

“We dipped into our bank account and used every penny we had, and this is the finished product,” Captain Sandy told First Coast News in February. “The builder is MIA with all of our money.”

The captain said she and Leah were forced to hire a new contractor for an extra $800,000.

“We worked hard to pay for this house in cash,” Leah told the outlet. “And it’s gone… and now, basically, we’re paying for this house twice.”

When does Captain Sandy Yawn expect her Florida home to be finished?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Pineapple Corporation president Spencer Calvert was arrested last month for alleged construction fraud involving multiple homebuyers. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Calvert was hit with several criminal charges, including misappropriation of construction funds of $100,000 or more, grand larceny of $100,000 or more, and fraud-swindle to obtain property of $50,000 or more.

“Calvert is the owner of Pineapple Corporation and was in contract with customers to build several homes,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement. “The victims purchased lots from Calvert between 2019-2023, that were ultimately left abandoned and incomplete.”

Captain Sandy said she and Leah are now working to complete their home — located in Nocatee’s Vista neighborhood — and plan to finish it within the next several months.

“We have a badass detective John McGuire working non-stop,” Captain Sandy told EW about the aforementioned fraud allegations. “This is just the beginning and justice has and will continue to be served… Hopefully, it will be done by June after our wedding. We just want to enjoy our lives after this nightmare. We are working hard to earn money to finish and now have to get a construction loan.”
