Carla Hall Will Host Special James Beard Foundation Event
The Cheftestant and Alton Brown will honor the best in the food industry.
Carla Hall has proven to be a great host as one of the foodies on The Chew. Now she will take those skills to a splashy food event taking place this spring.
The Top Chef Season 5 runner-up has been picked to host the James Beard Foundation's Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards Dinner. The event will take place on April 24 at New York City's Pier Sixty.
"We are thrilled to have two of television's most influential food personalities host this year's Awards shows, our 25th awards," Beard Foundation president Susan Ungaro said in a statement. "Both Carla and [television personality] Alton [Brown] have made amazing contributions to the food world through the years, so they seem the perfect fit to play master of ceremonies as we celebrate all of the culinary strides and achievements made not only by our Foundation, but the wonderful community of food and beverage professionals who have made this past quarter century great."
Additionally, Alton has been tapped to host the Restaurant and Chef Awards on May 4 in Chicago. A number of Cheftestants and Top Chef personalities have been nominated at this year's event, including Curtis Stone, Nick Elmi, Justin Devillier, Kevin Gillespie and Greg Gourdet, who was just named the runner-up in Season 12.
Earlier this year, Carla opened up about her new NYC eatery, Southern Kitchen. A date hasn't been set for the restaurant's opening night, but Carla definitely has the concept all ready to go.
"It's simple food, the kinds of meals I had at Sunday suppers at my grandmother's house," she said referring to her childhood in Tennessee. "It's a place where people can slow down. I just want a joint where you can chill, have some good food and get out of the rat race."
