Fredrik Eklund Shares the Best Advice He’s Received

The 'Million Dollar Listing New York' star dishes on staying positive and being true to yourself.

Fredrik Eklund is known for his high-kicking can-do attitude, which is part of the reason why he’s become so successful in the real estate world. And for that he has his grandmother to thank, who shared the best advice he’s ever heard with him when he was ten-years-old.

How to Watch

”It’s hard to translate to English, but she told me, ‘If you want to fly like a bird you have to cut off the poop that weighs you down,’” he shares with the Puget Sound Business Journal. “That means you cannot be around negativity. You cannot let the naysayers win. You have to cut them from your life and soar up the sky.”

Aside from his grandmother, the Million Dollar Listing New York star shares that he’s been lucky to have many positive influences throughout his life. “I have had so many amazing people and so many personally wonderful people around me,” he says. “I cook my own sort of ‘soup’ from those people.”

At the end of the day though, Fredrik says being true to yourself is key. “Being myself and who I really am, being authentic to who I am, is so important,” he says. “I made the mistake of not doing that tin the beginning of my career, thinking that people couldn’t take the 100% truth of who I am. But I know now that the only thing you have is you, and if you can sell yourself, you can sell anything.”

And being him isn’t so shabby nowadays! It’s something the number one agent in New York doesn’t take lightly. “I am very thankful and blessed. I don’t take anything for granted,” he says. “I am thankful for every moment. Every second. And by saying that every heart beat and every moment is pivotal, I mean the only real pivotal moment that ever existed is now. If you realize that, it is a pretty amazing moment to be alive!”
