Jason and Janet Caperna Tease “a Lot of Unexpected Shifts” in Friendships on The Valley
Janet also said audiences can expect to see their friendship "evolve" with two former Vanderpump Rules cast members.
New parents Jason Caperna and Janet Caperna recently teased fans about the dramatic shifts between friends on The Valley.
During a red-carpet interview for the series premiere, the married couple — then expecting their first child — dove into what it was like working with their friends and former Vanderpump Rules cast members Jax Taylor, Brittany Cartwright, and Kristen Doute. Janet called herself a fan of the original series, as well as the Real Housewives franchise, drawing on the shows to explain what people can expect on The Valley.
Here's what she told Bravo.
Janet Caperna teases “unexpected shifts” in relationships on The Valley
“I feel like in Vanderpump Rules, it’s a real friend group, and you see a lot of unexpected shifts in the friendships,” Janet told reporters at the Los Angeles-based event in March. “I feel like that happens to us this summer, which I didn’t expect.”
Janet said she and her husband went into the series already knowing who their “besties” were.
“But by the end of the summer, a lot of that had changed,” said Janet.
Jason pointed out that The Valley was not “a casted show” and that the Vanderpump Rules alums decided to bring in their best friends, which included the Capernas.
“When we were deciding whether or not to do the show in the first place, it wasn’t that hard of a decision because — as Janet says — who [would we] have even hung out with had we not done this show?” said the attorney. “Everyone would have been busy all summer. So, we really didn’t have much of a choice.”
Jason and Janet were then asked who they were closest to in the series and, additionally, how those friendships had begun to morph. Both of them were already close with now-separated couple Jax and Brittany, they explained.

“I think you’ll see that friendship evolve,” Janet added.
The former executive assistant said she “made friends” and “lost friends” over the course of filming.
“So, you’ll see some shifts in my friendships. I think, specifically, in the group,” Janet continued.
It was “ditto” for Jason, who gave an LOL-worthy response.
“I’m friends with whoever Janet allows me to be friends with,” Jason joked. “So, if her friendships shift, then they shift for me as well.”
What to expect on The Valley
A few episodes into the debut season, friendships are already bending under the strain of drama. Most notably, Kristen and her boyfriend, Luke Broderick, seem at odds with Janet and Michelle Saniei Lally after Kristen hurled accusations she claimed came from Janet originally, causing tensions that spilled over during their chaotic Capri-themed group dinner.
However, Janet explained in her confessional in Season 1, Episode 3 of The Valley that things between Janet and Kristen were already tense, even before filming commenced.
“Kristen and I have been close for years, and about a year ago, I had to put up a boundary with Kristen because her relationship with Alex [Menache] was so up and down and back and forth that it was making my head spin,” Janet told producers. “As soon as I put up a boundary with Kristen, she didn’t like that.”
Janet added that she felt Kristen threw her under the bus “any time she has the opportunity.”
Of course, more to come as the series continues, including what will happen with Janet and Kristen’s friendship.
