We Have an Update on James Kennedy’s Music Career: “Can’t Wait for You Guys to See This”
Vanderpump Rules’ resident DJ had an unexpected new gig that involved some freestyle rapping.
Just because James Kennedy retired his “White Kanye West” nickname in 2020 doesn’t mean he’s given up rapping. Sharing a music career update via Instagram on September 22, the Vanderpump Rules DJ revealed that he recently spit some bars on another reality TV show: MTV’s Wild ’N Out.
Announcing that he “won the belt” while showing off his first-place prize alongside girlfriend Ally, James added in his caption that he “can’t wait for you guys to see this episode” when it airs in early 2023. “My freestyle had some style!” he further teased, also thanking Wild ’N Out’s DC Young Fly and Nick Cannon.
Meanwhile, several of his Vanderpump Rules castmates jumped into the IG post’s comments section to share their excitement. While Ariana Madix wrote that she “can’t wait to see this,” Scheana Shay added, “Omg this is awesome!!!” along with a flame emoji.
That was hardly his only high-profile gig this summer. When Scheana married Brock Davies in Mexico on August 23, she walked down the aisle to a special mix of Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” that James put together for the happy occasion. Afterward, he kept the beats going by spinning at the newlyweds’ “insane after-party,” which they held in an on-site cenote.
In fact, James’ DJ career kept him booked and busy for most of the summer. Kicking off with a set at the Vanderpump Cocktail Garden at Caesars Palace Las Vegas over the July 4 holiday weekend, which he called “such a blast” on Instagram, he next took off to his girlfriend’s home state of Ohio, where he performed DJ sets in Cincinnati on July 8 and in Columbus on July 9.
Less than a week later, he was already back in the Golden State, where he had an “amazing time” on the ones and twos at SUR Restaurant “with the gang,” including Scheana and Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Sandoval and Max Vanderpump-Todd. In the same July 14 caption, James noted that he would be DJing again at a West Hollywood hotel two days later.
Of course, he also hopped into the DJ booth at the opening of Sandoval and Tom Schwartz’s new lounge, Schwartz & Sandy’s, on July 19. So, clearly, he has no intention of stopping the music anytime soon.
