How Did Miley Cyrus End Up in an Instagram Feud With a Feminist Cake Baker?

Miley Cyrus promoted her Marc Jacobs/Planned Parenthood partnership with a cake picture that wasn't hers to share.

Miley Cyrus is a known provocateur — but what did she do to piss off a baker? Here's your primer on the feud between the pop star and The Sweet Feminist, a self-described "rage baker" whose work is well known on Instagram.

Cyrus, who is working on a collaboration with Marc Jacobs and Planned Parenthood, promoted the partnership on her Instagram — teasing an upcoming announcement with a photo that showed her licking a cake emblazoned with the message "ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE." The pic garnered 4 million likes right off the bat — no surprise given Miley's massive exposure on the platform, where she has nearly 100 million followers.

That's when Becca Rea-Holloway took notice — and had a problem. On Instagram, where she has about 97,000 followers, she called out the image's apparently identical facsimile to her own cake — without any attribution or compensation. Rea-Holloway had shared hers to her feed nearly a month ago in response to Alabama's passage of its controversial abortion law.

Voila:

She wrote in her Instagram Story, tagging Cyrus: This is my art work without credit! Anyone who knows anything about intellectual property/art work plz send me a message!"

Among the comments was Padma Lakshmi, who struggled to take it all in: "I'm so confused," she wrote.

But all's well that ends well though, apparently: Cyrus responded promptly that the intellectual property theft was absolutely unintentional.

“Hi, we saw the image online and didn’t realize it was yours,” she wrote back. “We will absolutely tag you for your work…It is just on the post and not on the merchandise but we will absolutely tag you and give you the credit for your art. If you could please correct your post, as we’re going to make sure you have all the credit you deserve… thanks for sharing your art and inspiring us."
