When she gave BravoTV.com a tour of her elegant home (see the video above), Emily Simpson's first stop was her formal living room — "or family room, I never know what it's supposed to be called," The Real Housewives of Orange County mom said. "Anyway, it's that room you try to keep your kids out of, so they don't destroy anything, so you have one nice room in your house." There are, however, some exceptions to that rule.
In her recent Instagram Stories, Emily offered a peek at her sons' "music lesson" for the day, which took place at the grand piano in the formal room she tries to keep kid-free in more normal times. As the tots banged away on the piano (hey, we'll call it ... improvisational), Emily panned over the room, giving us a peek at its elegant decor.
With sun spilling through its two-story windows, the room has a view of lush palm leaves. Its dark-wood floors are covered by a richly patterned oriental rug. On a tufted, blue velvet ottoman, a mirrored tray holds framed photographs and an arrangement of blue-and-white flowers. We can also make out a fireplace topped with candles and blue-and-white chinoiserie vases.
Above the fireplace, there's an oversize painting that seems to depict a watery scene in Venice. And off to the side, there's a cozy reading chair upholstered in black-and-white, patterned fabric. There's more seating surrounding the ottoman, in cushy ivory chairs with metal studs.
