George Clooney knew that Amal Clooney was special when he first clapped eyes on the human-rights lawyer. And, it probably didn't hurt that his beloved cocker spaniel Einstein also seemed to approve.
The actor, who adopted Einstein in 2010 from Camp Cocker Rescue, shared the genius way that the adorable dog helped him woo his future wife.
After his initial meeting with Amal, the actor kept in touch with her via email. But, he wasn't always the one to pen the notes. Instead, he let "Einstein" write to the lawyer with his own questions.
Chatting with David Letterman for My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, the actor said: "I would write letters from Einstein to [Amal] saying, ‘I’m being held hostage and I need a lawyer to get me out of the room.'”
Along with writing love letters to a fetching lawyer, Einstein had a great life that included traveling to Italy and eating plenty of turkey meatballs in Clooney's kitchen. And though he went to doggie heaven in 2017, the beloved pet will always be credited with helping George and Amal to come together.
Einstein's letters weren't the only way that a mutual love for animals helped the couple bond. A new Vogue profile on Amal details how giraffes played into the actor's decision to pop the question. When on safari with his soon-to-be wife, George recalled: "Some giraffes walked up to her. They just came out of the blue. I took a picture of her, and she was smiling. I said to my buddy Ben, ‘You know, I think I should ask her to marry me.’ And Ben said, ‘I think that’s a good idea."
