Want to Know How Far SUR Has Come from Its Humble Beginnings? Here’s Some Startling Context

The West Hollywood Vanderpump Rules hotspot was a very different place back in 1998.

Lisa Vanderpump Explains the Origins of SUR

These days, SUR is known as a "sexy, unique restaurant" that draws clients from around the world. After all, who wouldn't want to taste the famous goat cheese balls  Stassi Schroeder so adores or catch a glimpse of Stassi or one of the other SURvers in the flesh? But the West Hollywood hotspot wasn't always what it is today. Let's take a trip down SUR's memory lane.

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Bravo Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

Page Six recently got a tour of the eatery from Guillermo Zapata, who opened SUR back in 1998. When it first opened, Zapata said, SUR was a smaller space with about seven tables in the main dining room, and three or four tables in the "party room."

And then, in 2005, Zapata met a couple of restaurateurs from London. Yep, that'd be Ken Todd and Lisa Vanderpump! After Ken and Lisa invested in the restaurant, bit by bit, the restaurant started expanding to the multi-room space that it is today, and areas such as Brittany Cartwright's beloved "pink room," the dark and sexy garden, and SUR Lounge came to be.

Who knew that before becoming a juggernaut, SUR was simply the little restaurant that could? Click here to see Zapata's illuminating tour, and then click here to catch up on full episodes  of Vanderpump Rules, where you'll see what really goes on at SUR!
