Nene Leakes and Gregg Leakes went into Season 11 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta completely open and honest about his Stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis. And along with that candid spirit came the fact that they showed viewers all sides of that battle — including how much it has affected their entire family: her as a caregiver, him as a patient, and their marriage, which they confirmed during the reunion was already rocky.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Peacock and the Bravo App.

And Nene has definitely seen what fans have been saying about her this season, including any negative feedback she has received from viewers about her behavior toward her husband during that time. She took to Twitter this week to react to the critics and offer her side of the story.

"Cancer affects the whole family, not just the person with the disease! Sharing what we’ve been goin[g] [through] publicly has been hard. The criticism hasn’t helped but it has definitely made us stronger [in] every way," she tweeted. "Thank [you] to America Cancer Society who has supported us relentlessly."

Gregg shared that he recently wrapped up six months of chemotherapy. Nene congratulated her husband on the milestone moment in his treatment of the disease: "Awesome job hunni! I’m so happy for you and the strength you showed during this difficult time in your life!"

Nene elaborated more on her caregiver role when she spoke to The Daily Dish last November. "It's definitely not easy. The moment we found out he had cancer, everything about our life changed," she said in late 2018. "It was just hard. It's hard on him. It's hard on me. It's hard on our entire family. It's hard being a caretaker. It's hard being a patient. It's a lot of decisions you have to make, so it definitely has not been easy. It's been probably the hardest thing — it really takes over."
