Ashley Darby Reveals Why It's "So Hard" for Her and Candiace Dillard Bassett to Ever Be Friends
The RHOP cast member discusses her relationship with Chris Bassett amid conflict with his wife.
The Real Housewives of Potomac couples' trip continued in the October 10 episode, and so did the drama as things became heated between Ashley Darby and Candiace Dillard Bassett while everyone was out at dinner.
The cast recalled what it was like witnessing that dispute in The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show, which you can view, above. For Ashley, the conflict was sparked by the discussion turning to the events earlier in the day between Candiace and Mia Thornton. "Where things really went south between us is when I referenced her behavior earlier that day," Ashley explained in the RHOP After Show. "I just didn't understand why she would put herself in that position knowing how difficult it was for her last year."
But Candiace said that she felt like Ashley, with whom she has clashed many times over the years on RHOP, was just "coming for me." "And she's doing it under the guise of this concern, and there is no concern. You have to just stay on ready for the likes of Ashley, and I was just being on ready for her," Candiace said in the RHOP After Show. "And it escalated, and she was getting loud, so then I was getting loud."
Ashley gave us more insight on her latest drama with Candiace, sharing how she feels about it all today during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on October 10. In Ashley's opinion, this situation was emblematic of why these two just can't seem to get along. "What saddens me and what makes it so hard for Candiace and I to ever have a relationship was she still didn't take accountability," Ashley said (clip below). "Andy [Cohen], I was giving her an opportunity to say 'that's not what I meant' or 'I misspoke,' and she didn't take it. She just kept digging."
Unfortunately, the fact that Ashley and Candiace have both released music doesn't seem to have brought them any closer together. Candiace was previously critical of Ashley's use of Auto-Tune in her 2018 single "Coffee & Love." And, well, Ashley just admitted on WWHL that she has yet to listen to "Drive Back," the lead single off of Candiace's new album, Deep Space.
Even though these Potomac Housewives may not often see eye to eye, Ashley notably shared a nice moment with Candiace's husband, Chris Bassett, in the October 10 episode of RHOP in which he told her congratulations on welcoming baby No. 2. "Chris has always been really nice. He DM'd me a couple of times," Ashley said during the WWHL After Show of maintaining a good relationship with Chris despite her frequent drama with Candiace. "He tries to sort of bridge things between Candiace and I."
But later on in that episode of RHOP, Chris would also cause a bit of a stir during Ashley and Candiace's tense dinner. See what the cast had to say about all that in the RHOP After Show, below.
