Find Out Padma Lakshmi's Favorite NYC Spot
The #TopChef host and show's alum Hugh Acheson explore their favorite secret spots.
If you're heading to the Big Apple or Hotlanta anytime soon, then you might want to break out your pen and pad and scribble these spots down. Top Chef's very own Padma Lakshmi and Hugh Acheson are opening up about their respective home bases and dishing about some of their favorite spots for the Make Everyday Local project. Their picks are a mixture of eateries and shops that are certain to appeal to shoppers and foodies from all walks of life.
1. Padma on NYC
Her pick is Argosy Book Store. In the video tour of the landmark Manhattan shop, she notes that "New York has so much history to it" and from the sounds of it this place certainly has plenty of its own! "I love to walk the stacks of the library downstairs. It's just one of those old, beautiful, warm and cozy rooms," Padma says of the store, which first opened its doors in 1925. She added, "I never leave her without being more enriched than I was when I walked in through the doors. At the end of the day, its really not about the book. Its really about history, being passionate about where something comes from and where it's going."
2. Hugh on Atlanta
Hugh has several locations he loves, including Buford Highway Farmers Market (which he describes as "the United Nations of Atlanta"), Fantasyland Records, clothing shop Tweeds, Octane Coffee and his own eatery Empire State South. "You know, to me, it's really important to support local businesses," he says of his favorite places around town. "The most important thing is finding the little places that sell the good stuff. I think we're all interested these days in finding things that last forever."
