Katie Maloney's Relationship History: From Tom Schwartz to Post-Divorce Single Life
The Vanderpump Rules cast member has experienced highs and lows, including a marriage with a fellow cast member, cheating rumors, and a divorce.

We’ve watched Katie Maloney go through a lot on Vanderpump Rules in the last 10 years, especially in her romantic relationship. When Bravo fans first met Katie in Season 1, she was dating Tom Schwartz, and the relationship certainly had its trying times. Still, the couple was able to resolve many of their differences, got engaged in 2015, and then married the following year.
After 12 years together, Katie filed for divorce in March of 2022 and it was finalized later that year. Now, Katie is living her best life while single—and having some “casual” flings along the way. Luckily, fans will get to see it all play out in Season 10, which is currently airing.
In the meanwhile, join us for a trip down memory lane as we reflect on Katie’s relationship history from 2011 until the present day. Read on for everything you need to know about her dating life, marriage, divorce, and post-divorce life.
June 2011: Katie met Tom Schwartz
Before we even met Katie on Vanderpump Rules, she was already in a committed relationship with Schwartz. Years later, Katie reflected on their first encounter—which happened in 2011, thanks to their mutual pal, Kristen Doute—but it didn’t exactly go as planned.
"He had a girl with him, that was the funny part was that finally I'm meeting this guy that supposedly wants to meet me, that's so perfect for me, and he's got a girl with him," Katie recalled to The Daily Dish in 2017.
"The very first night there was no spark," Tom added, "But the second night I was introduced to her and given a little backstory, that's when it clicked."
September 2011: Katie starts dating Tom
It wasn’t until a few months later, however that the pair went on their first official date. The pair attended a Vampire Weekend concert in September 2011, which Tom later told The Daily Dish was “romantic but fun.”
2014: Tom dumped a drink on Katie’s head
In Seasons 1 and 2 of Vanderpump Rules, fans got a front row seat to the ups and downs of Katie and Tom’s relationship. A particularly infamous upset came in Season 2, when the cast went to Mexico for a friend’s birthday. Tom and Katie ended up arguing about her drinking, which culminated in Tom dumping a drink on his girlfriend’s head and telling her “F--- off, man.”
Later in the episode Katie revealed, "I have this relationship all wrong. This relationship is so … this relationship is f---ed up, man."
Tom eventually apologized and the couple moved on.
July 2014: Tom gave Katie a ring on a string
At Scheana Shay’s first wedding, which occurred in July 2014 and aired in a Season 3 episode, Tom gave Katie a gift—a promise ring on a necklace chain—that was not so well received.
“He pulled out this box, my heart stopped,” Katie recalled in a Bravo blog. “Was he going to pull out an engagement ring and propose to me at a wedding? As much as I have dreamed of a proposal, it never took place at someone else's wedding. Well, it was a ring, but it was attached to a necklace. Whomp whomp whoooommpp.”
She continued, “I understand he did put thought into the gift: He knew I love rose gold, and he even had it inscribed with my nickname 'Bubba Love.' Problem was that it was a ring attached to a string. At this point in our relationship, a ring should have strings attached, not be attached to a string.”
Season 3 finale: Katie issued an ultimatum
During the SUR 10th anniversary party, which aired in the Season 3 finale, Katie responded to Tom’s ring on a string with an ultimatum. Katie said she wanted to be engaged within in the next six months, or their relationship wouldn’t last.
July 8, 2015: Katie and Tom got engaged

In July 2015, Katie finally got the ring she really wanted: An engagement ring. Katie took to Instagram to share a closer look at the 2-carat pear-shaped champagne diamond, which was set in 14-karat rose gold.
Their engagement was featured on Season 4.
August 17, 2016: Katie and Tom got married

In August 2016, the couple said “I do” in front of their family and friends in northern California. "I'm so happy to have married my best friend, and love that I finally get to call Tom my husband," Katie said at the time. "Celebrating with our closest friends and family has been nothing short of an amazing experience." Their beautiful ceremony was seen on Season 5.
Late August 2016: The newlyweds went on their honeymoon
Later that same month, the couple jetted off to Moorea for their honeymoon, where they enjoyed plenty of time on the beach.
January 2018: Katie responded to rumors that Tom cheated
In early 2018, Katie responded to rumors that her husband had kissed another woman. “It was just disappointing that we had been in such a good place. I mean, we went to hell and back before we got married, and essentially we’d had to burn our relationship to the ground, and once we had gotten married we’d really recommitted and were on such a good path together that I just would never have expected to hear that,” Katie told Us Weekly at the time.
Katie went on to say that Tom "does not recall anything” from that night “and could not even pick this girl out of a crowd." She also said that she believes that Tom genuinely doesn't remember anything happening with this woman.
July 2019: Katie married Tom for a second time
Eventually, it came out that Katie and Tom’s marriage was never actually legal. "We got a marriage license... we got married we all signed it.. we sent it in.. we just never received our marriage certificate and when we called to investigate they said they never received our paperwork," Katie wrote on Twitter at the time.
In July 2019, the pair hosted a second marriage ceremony in Las Vegas and made it official legally.
Later, in the Vanderpump Rules After Show, Katie revealed that the second wedding was actually a childhood dream come true for her. Above, she says, "I had forgotten about this until I had told my mom, and she goes, 'Katie, you always told me when you were younger that you were going to get married at Caesar's Palace in Vegas.' And I was like, 'Oh my God!' Dreams don't always look the way they look."
March 15, 2022: Katie and Tom decided to end their relationship
The couple announced in March of 2022 that they had decided to separate after 12 years together. The pair confirmed their split in two separate Instagram posts.
"After 12 years on an adventure through life together Tom and I are ending our marriage," Katie wrote. "Although we may be on different paths we will continue to love and support one another's happiness. Thank you for all the kind words and support."
Tom wrote, in part, "Wanted to clear the air on some rumors floating around. Katie & I are separating. I'm not quite ready to use the 'D' word [because] it's too painful. Yes my heart aches but I'll be ok."
March 22, 2022: Katie filed for divorce
Later that month, Katie officially filed for divorce. She then reflected on what led to her decision to end their marriage in an episode of her podcast, You’re Gonna Love Me.
"There wasn't some crazy fight that resulted in this. It was my decision, which was probably the hardest and most painful decision I've ever had to make," she said. "But the best and only way I can describe it is just waking up and having this voice that just became louder and louder."
"I feel very strongly that I'm doing the right thing, but it doesn't make it easier," she added. "It's really hard not to think about all of the best times and your wedding and everything that's going on."
"But when everything else inside of you, the burning inside of you, is telling you that you deserve more, then you have to listen to that."
June 2022: Katie moved out of the house she shared with Tom
Following the split, Katie packed up and moved out of the Valley Village house she had shared with Tom.
In a June 8, 2022, Instagram post, Katie reflected on the moment.
“I hate goodbyes. And this one hurts a lot,” Katie captioned a photo of her sitting on the floor in an empty room. “The emotions and words are hard to pin down. Closing this chapter on my life feels like attending my own funeral. But I’m very much alive.”
“Thank you house for being the coziest brightest home, for the memories, for being my sanctuary, for letting me dress you up like a Hallmark movie set at Christmas and for being OURS,” she continued in the post, tagging Tom. “I’m going to miss coming home.”
October 2022: Katie was officially divorced
According to Us Weekly, Katie and Tom were officially divorced when judgment was entered on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022.
A month prior, the pair had addressed the divorce on Katie’s podcast.
“Divorce, no matter what… it still is a mindf--k,” Katie explained, likening the process to a business transaction. Tom added that, in a divorce, everything gets “reduced to, like, a piece of paper that we sign and then it’s just over. … [It’s] the least romantic thing.”
Season 10: Katie is enjoying the single life and is linked to two actors

In Vanderpump Rules’ tenth season, which premiered Feb. 8, 2023, fans will get to see Katie enjoying the single life, which includes dating some new people. In the Season 10 trailer, Katie can be seen with actor Satchel Clendenin, with whom she admitted she had “a very casual thing.”
Katie shared more details in the Season 10 premiere. “I’ve made out with, like, three people and then done the full deed with, like, two,” she said in an interview.
At the Vanderpump Rules Season 10 premiere party on February 8, Katie caught up with BravoTV.com to share the latest update in her dating life. "Well, I recently got ghosted, so that was cool," Katie revealed. "But it's alright. You know what? I'm not going to be for everybody, and that's cool."
"You know what I remind myself? Rihanna follows me on Instagram," she added. "Whenever someone tries to make me feel bad about myself, I just remind myself that the queen follows me on Instagram.”
"There'll just be another guy next week," she concluded.
Rumors flew again when Katie posted a selfie in bed with actor Lukas Gage, but Katie shut down speculation in a Feb. 10, 2023 Instagram Story. Replying to an “Ask Me a Question” submission which read, “Are you dating Lukas Gage,” Katie simply wrote, “Lol,” and tagged Lukas’ Instagram. Later, another user asked if Katie had a “boyfriend,” to which she responded, “No.”
During a Feb. 15, 2023 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Katie revealed that she has a bit of a type post-divorce. "They're all young; I like it," Katie said about her new type. "The young ones are kind of where it's at."
