Kristen Doute Says She and Boyfriend Luke Broderick Are "Actively Trying" to Have a Baby
Some on The Valley think Kristen might be moving a little too fast with her long-distance boyfriend who's only in L.A. for the summer.
The couples on The Valley are entering new phases of life, including Kristen Doute and her new boyfriend, Luke Broderick. They hope to enter the world of parenthood soon. Not everybody, however, is on board with the couple’s plans for the future.
In the Tuesday, March 19, 2024 season premiere of The Valley Kristen sat with series friends Jasmine Goode and Zack Wickham for lunch. After raising a toast to “snakes and condoms: two things we don’t f-ck with,” Kristen raised the topic of how she hoped to conceive a child with Luke Broderick.
“Watching all of my friends over the past few years get married, have babies, grow their families ... ” Kristen told producers. “I’m the oldest girl in this group. Like, when’s my time?”
Kristen, now 41, was referring to longtime friends Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright (who share a 2-year-old son, Cruz), as well as her costars in The Valley. Jesse and Michelle Lally share 3-year-old Isabella Bunny, Danny and Nia Booko are the parents of 2-year-old son Asher and infant twin daughters Isabelle Marie and Zariah Rose, and Jason and Janet Caperna are expecting their first child in the season premiere.
What Jasmine and Zack think of Kristen’s pregnancy plans
Luke said during an outing with the boys that “99 percent” of his life was still in Colorado and that he had only planned on staying at Kristen’s Los Angeles apartment for two to three months. Kristen, meanwhile, told Jasmine and Zack that she and Luke planned his visits from Colorado around her ovulation, adding that they are “actively trying … or practicing,” though Luke is now “committed to being here for the summer.”

For Kristen, the next step was to get pregnant before summer’s end.
“When Kristen started dating Luke, I just didn’t see it because she went from these crazy personalities to this mountain man boyfriend now,” Jasmine told producers. “But he just seems a little country guy, kind of vanilla, but nice.”
Depending on what happened, it seemed likely that Luke might return to his 70 acres back in Colorado.
Zack, who was there at the start of Kristen and Luke’s relationship, also gave his thoughts about the couple trying for a baby.
“I, from the beginning, was like, ‘Do not, for the love of God, date him; you just broke up with someone.’ Clearly, that didn’t happen,” Zack told producers. “But she got lucky that she’s landed someone that’s willing to work with her, and he is way better than any of her other exes.”
The Valley cast on Kristen and Luke's relationship
Jax was very vocal about Kristen’s desire to become pregnant in the season premiere, and even asked if she was “mentally there” to make the choice. He also made it a point of conversation in Episode 1 when he and Brittany sat with the Capernas.
The group collectively wondered if Kristen focused only on having a child or if she believed she found in Luke the perfect person with whom to share a baby. Jax, at least, thinks it isn't the latter.
“She was trying to get pregnant a week before she broke up with Alex,” Jax answered. “I want to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I just feel like there’s gonna be an ‘I told you so’ moment.”
But Jax wasn’t speaking for everyone in the group.
“I know that she’s wanted this for a long time,” Brittany said. “Yeah, it might be fast with Luke, but she deserves to be a mother, and she’s already 40. That’s what I worry about.”
Jason also stood up for Kristen, telling producers he thought she had “a lot of qualities” that would make her a good parent.
“Kristen will go above and beyond when it comes to her friends,” Jason continued. “I think she’s a good person, and personally, I think she’d make a great mother.”
Unfortunately, in November 2023, Kristen did reveal she and Luke were expecting, but she experienced a miscarriage.
"I only feel comfortable talking about this because I know so many friends of mine have gone through this," Kristen said on an episode of her podcast, Sex, Love, and What Else Matters with Kristen Doute. "Or, I know so many women have been through this."
What's more, "It's really f-cking terrifying because you always think, 'What's wrong? What did I do wrong? Could I have done something different?' And my doctor and my friends have told me, inside and out, up and down, that there's no reason — you can Google it 'til the day you die — there is literally no cause," Kristen continued. "They don't know why."
Kristen did confirm to The Daily Dish in March 2024 she and Luke are still actively trying for a baby, though.
