The Valley wouldn’t make for great television if not for a healthy dose of drama, and it looks like there was plenty of it even before the series even began.

In the Tuesday, March 19, 2024 season premiere of The Valley, Vanderpump Rules alum Kristen Doute introduced audiences to her new outdoorsy boyfriend, Luke Broderick. But before moving into her northern Los Angeles apartment, she filled viewers in on what happened with her former boyfriend, Alex Menache, and it sounded like things were pretty tumultuous.

Here’s why:

Why Kristen Doute and Alex Menache Broke Up

With help from her pups, Bowie and Gibson, Kristen unpacked her things in the new apartment, telling a nearby Luke that she had no desire to keep gifts from old boyfriends. As she later explained to producers, Kristen previously owned “a really beautiful home” in Valley Village — where Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright also lived — for about two and a half years.

According to Kristen, Alex “urged” her to sell the single-family residence so that she could move into his apartment with him.

“Over the next five months, we broke up about seven times until he kicked me out, and I moved into an apartment,” Kristen admitted to producers. “Now I’m moving into a nicer, bigger unit right down the hall.”

As previously reported, Kristen sold her million-dollar home in 2021.

Will Kristen and Luke live together on The Valley?

Two weeks after Kristen and Alex’s “sh-tty breakup,” Kristen attended a wedding where Luke acted as one of the groomsmen, she explained to producers.

“I thought, ‘He’s sweet, he’s kind, he’s funny,’” she continued. “Then we had sex behind a tent, and the rest is history.”

Later in the episode, Luke joined the men of The Valley, including Jax, Jason Caperna, Jesse Lally, and Danny Booko, for a game of indoor golf. When prompted by Jason, Luke explained he would spend the next two to three months living at Kristen’s apartment before likely returning to Colorado once summer was over.

“I mean, technically, I’m still a Colorado resident,” said Luke. “I’ve got a little closet with some clothes, and I have my own set of golf clubs here, so that’s nice.”

Luke added that “99 percent” of his life was still in Colorado, leading Jax to ask if Luke planned to maintain a long-distance relationship.

“I’m not planning it that way, but, you know, I mean, we’re kind of trying to take another step,” said Luke.

As highlighted in The Valley’s trailer, viewers will see Kristen and Luke trying to have a baby. But not every cast member thinks Kristen should be in a rush to pursue motherhood, especially with a man some — including Jax and Jesse — refer to as “a rebound.”

As seen in a recent teaser, Jax even questioned whether Kristen was mentally there” to bring a child into the world.

Jax's Feelings on Luke Broderick

Jax and Brittany hosted a family-friendly, County Fair-themed party at their home to celebrate Janet Caperna’s birthday, inviting the rest of The Valley cast and some of their former castmates. Parents Lala Kent and Scheana Shay were there to celebrate, both of whom witnessed many of Kristen’s relationships during their time on Vanderpump Rules.

Some of Kristen’s most noteworthy (and dramatic) romances included Tom SandovalBrian Carter, and even a scandalous hookup or two with Jax in the earliest seasons of the series.

“We’ve all known Kristen for many, many, many years,” Jax told producers. “Luke is f-cked.”

Jax later suggested Kristen “really think about” having a child with her new boyfriend.

“And maybe pick a guy that’s gonna stay in L.A.,” he added.
