Luke Broderick Has 3 Major Reasons for Not Moving to California for Kristen Doute
Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick are on the same page about wanting to have a baby, but they disagree about just what happens after that.
Kristen Doute and her boyfriend, Luke Broderick, have been busy planning a future together on The Valley — but they just can’t agree on where that future should play out.
The couple, who met at a wedding in 2022, has been openly trying to have a baby together. But it seems that some details of their life together after they start a family are still up in the air.
While Luke admitted on The Valley that “no part” of him wants to make a permanent move to Los Angeles, Kristen is still envisioning a life in the Golden State.
“California is important to me, like I can’t leave California like tomorrow or next year or the year after, but I think giving it a couple, a couple of years,” she told Luke at dinner in the series' fourth episode.
Kristen added that she had moved “three times in a year and a half” and wasn’t eager to pull out the moving boxes again any time soon.
“I can’t do it again,” she said. “I need a minute.”
Why won't Luke Broderick move to Los Angeles?
But Luke had his own set of compelling reasons for wanting his roots to remain in his home state of Colorado.
“Everything I’ve built up in life, everything I’ve worked toward has been accumulating in Colorado,” he told producers.
Not only does Luke already have an established life in the Centennial State, but he also believes the couple would have more support while raising the child they hope to conceive.
“We also have a better circle, I think, of people that are true, down-to-earth, good people,” he said.
Add in the higher cost of living in California, and for Luke — who described the City of Angels as an “awful city”— the decision is easy.
“I mean, a 3-year-old’s preschool tuition at a private school is what I paid for college tuition,” he said of the high costs in LA.
Luke is hoping for a simpler, more cost-effective life in the Colorado mountains, where he loves to fish and hunt.
“No part of me wants to move to LA,” he told producers.
Yet, Kristen isn’t exactly an outdoorsy girl or a fan of Colorado’s cold winters, putting her at odds with his plan to move back to the Midwest.
While she acknowledged that Luke may not want to call Los Angeles home, she’s still hopeful they could find somewhere in California that might meet both of their needs.

“I am not married to living in L.A. and I know that is Luke’s non-negotiable,” she said. “But,I’m really trying to get Luke to flirt with the idea of staying in California.”
For now, Luke agreed to spend at least part of his time in Los Angeles.
“Right now, my work is here," Kristen told him.
"I understand," Luke replied.
“California is really important," Kristen added. "I need a minute to breathe.”
It’s too early to tell just where this couple will end up long-term, but Luke suggested they try sorting it out with the help of a premarital counselor.
“I don’t think either of us can fully wrap our heads around the amount of money and time that goes into raising a child,” he told Kristen at their romantic dinner.
As for Kristen, she said that was one aspect of parenthood she wasn’t concerned about.
“Like, I just know I got it,” she said.
