Following the news that Meghan and Cuffe had split after a little more than two months of marriage, E! News ran a report on Tuesday, December 28 from a source that claimed the breakup "had to do with distance" since Meghan lives in Missouri with the three children she shares with ex-husband Jim Edmonds (5-year-old daughter Aspen and 3-year-old twin sons Hart and Hayes), and Cuffe is an attorney based in Los Angeles.
"Meghan cannot uproot the children from where they currently live and he lives and works in California," the source told E! News. "She had hopes of being able to spend more time in California but the kids cannot just be moved."
Meghan has now denied that claim in a statement to Page Six published on Wednesday, December 29. “Cuffe lived with me,” The Real Housewives of Orange County alum clarified. “We didn’t have any distance.”
“We lived together every day since the day we met,” Meghan continued. “There was no Cali/MO distance. There was zero long distance whatsoever.”
Meghan did not divulge what did lead to the separation, according to Page Six.
Previously, it seemed like distance wasn't an issue for Meghan and Cuffe, as the RHOC alum described how the two first met and started dating in an interview with Brides following their wedding in October. "We connected on a dating app, texted for a day or two, then spent five straight hours on the phone the first time we spoke," Meghan said. "By the time that call ended, Cuffe was booked and packed for a flight to St. Louis that took off in about eight hours. Within a week, we were back on the East Coast, meeting his family, and starting to plan our future together. We didn’t leave each other’s side for weeks."
Since their wedding, Meghan and Cuffe have spent time together in both California and Missouri. Meghan shared a photo of herself with Cuffe and her kids celebrating Aspen's 5th birthday at SeaWorld San Diego in November. "Happy 5th birthday to the most firey-firecracker: Aspen. She felt so special to have a fun day hosted by SeaWorld with her extended family all together," Meghan said of the outing at the time. "The grown-ups are tired, the kids are out like lights, and we got some halfway decent sunny pics to prove that we had a ball."
Meghan and Cuffe also got in some alone time in St. Louis in honor of their two-month anniversary. "We sent the kids to stay at grandma and grandpa’s, we got a hotel 3 miles from our house, and I slipped into the pajamas I’ve been waiting to wear for a special occasion. We feel like we’ve been married for a million years (thanks to marrying later in life and with a lot of history and, well, kids) so a two month anniversary staycation was called for," Meghan wrote on Instagram on December 3. "Tomorrow real life commences but a few hours in a hotel [Le Meridien St. Louis Clayton] will do a new marriage good. Please, give us more good marriage tips!"
After it was reported last week that the couple had separated, Meghan confirmed the breakup in her Instagram Stories on Monday, December 27. "I've been asked by many outlets and individuals to comment on the state of my marriage," she said in a statement. "I am rattled. This situation is profoundly devastating. This is obviously not what I imagined when I made my vows — and I'm shocked and saddened by the way things turned out. I am moving forward with my children as we privately process our pain and begin to let go of shattered dreams."
She concluded her message, "At this time I ask for your grace and gentle kindness as I navigate this labyrinth of grief with my family."
After spending Christmas with loved ones, Meghan has been traveling with her children. On Wednesday, December 29, she shared photos and videos in her Instagram Stories showing herself on the beach "soaking up some rays with my water babies at Momo and Papa's beautiful condo" in Hutchinson Island South, Florida.
