Ashley Wirkus McAtee is sharing her personal story after suffering two miscarriages over the past year. The Summer House alum, who shares 1-year-old son Dean with husband Brad McAtee, opened up about enduring “back to back” pregnancy losses in a recent Instagram post.
On December 31, Ashley took to Instagram to share her experience, revealing that she initially hesitated to reveal such a personal story, but ultimately decided “that if one person could read this and it help them then it’s worth sharing.”
“I recently suffered back to back losses. My first at 10 weeks pregnant and my 2nd at 14 weeks pregnant with my baby girl,” Ashley explained in the emotional post. “Losing a baby is a horror no one should experience and I can tell you that I have never felt pain like this. I am shattered, devastated, confused, angry, and so many more emotions I fail at putting them into words. “
Ashley went on to explain that she became immediately “attached” after seeing both positive pregnancy tests and held a gender reveal during her most recent pregnancy. “When I saw the pink balloons I was so beyond in love. I haven’t been able to look at the pictures but I do hope I can look at them one day,” she wrote. “I visualized our life and made space in my heart and home for my little babe. I pictured Dean as a big brother and spoke to him daily about the baby in my belly.”
Ashley concluded the post by sending a heartfelt message to other women who have undergone similar experiences. “I am with all of you Mamas. The ones who have suffered loss and are wishing for another baby. I am with you,” she wrote, also adding, "Here’s to our angels in heaven. And here’s to a new year with hope in my heart for what’s to come."
