Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard’s Preston Mitchum is Engaged! See the Beautiful Proposal
The Washington D.C.-based advocate popped the question to his partner during a romantic dinner in Madrid.
Congratulations are in order for one Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard star and his partner.
On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, advocate and Bravolebrity Preston Mitchum proposed marriage to his partner of three years, Donald Cooley, reported PEOPLE. Preston put a ring on it during a romantic 10-course meal at the Ramón Freixa restaurant in Madrid, Spain, an event photographed in spectacular fashion.
“He was so genuinely shocked [that] it happened — thought he suspected something,” Preston told PEOPLE. “So, that made it even better.”
The pair have been dating since late 2019 after meeting on Jack’d, a dating app catering to gay men.
Preston Mitchum gets engaged
"In a world where love between Black queer men isn't always acknowledged or celebrated, we stand proudly together on this beautiful road together," stated the betrothed couple. "Our journey is a testament to the beauty and strength of love in all its forms and a commitment to always love and learn from each other. With hearts full of gratitude, we look forward to writing the next chapter of our lives together."
Preston sealed the deal with a 1.95-karat black diamond engagement ring by luxury designer jeweler David Yurman.

Of course, Donald said, "I do!"
“Donald said YES to my hand in marriage, and I couldn’t be any happier!” Preston posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Who is Donald Cooley?
Like Preston, Donald is a lawyer based in Washington D.C. An online profile shows Preston's fiancé working with the multinational law firm Latham & Watkins as part of their Finance Department.
Donald specializes in private equity clients in "subscription credit facilities" and has earned several achievements along the way, including the group’s Diversity in Fund Finance Award in 2022 and the Inaugural Rising Star Award in 2020. His clients include Ares Management and The Carlyle Group, to name just a few.
Preston told PEOPLE it “made sense” to ask for Donald's hand in marriage while the two were abroad.
"We usually take two big international trips a year, and this one just felt right to pop the question," said Preston.
Madrid was the second stop during the couple’s “romantic excursion,” their first being Barcelona.
Preston and Donald's travels are well-documented on social media, including taking a November 2023 trip to BravoCon in Las Vegas and ringing in the New Year in Mexico City, as seen on Donald's Instagram page.
Cheers to the happy couple!
