All the Ups and Downs of Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright's Relationship

The Vanderpump Rules couple went through a lot before getting married, buying a house, and having a baby.

By Talia Ergas

When Jax Taylor first introduced Vanderpump Rules fans to his new girlfriend Brittany Cartwright in Season 4, people were skeptical of the couple's ability to make their relationship work. (A cheating scandal in Season 6 didn't help things.)

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Bravo Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

However, the couple proved everyone wrong, eventually getting engaged, getting married, and having a baby — their son, Cruz Michael Cauchi — together. Now, their relationship is stronger than ever as they prepare to open a sports bar together.

Here's what to know about Jax and Brittany's relationship.

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright met in Las Vegas in 2015

Jax Taylor and Brittany Explain Their Love Story in 30 Seconds

Between filming Seasons 3 and 4 of Vanderpump Rules, Jax met Brittany at a club in Las Vegas. By the start of Season 4, Brittany — who was from Kentucky — had already moved to Los Angeles to live with Jax.

“We met in Vegas. He fell in love with me at first sight,” Brittany told BravoTV.com in the video above. “He was with another girl. I stole him away. We’ve been together ever since. He begged me to move to L.A. and I did.”

Jax brought Brittany to meet Lisa Vanderpump at SUR in the hopes of getting her a waitressing job. Although the interview was memorably rocky, Lisa ended up giving Brittany a job and she officially joined the SUR crew.

Brittany Cartwright’s mom, Sherry Cartwright, pressured Jax Taylor to get married

Jax Feels Pressure From Brittany's Mom to Get Married

In Season 5 — which aired in 2016 and 2017 — Jax felt the pressure from Brittany’s mom, Sherry Cartwright, to marry her daughter.

“You would really get me upset if you brought Brittany out here and years and years go by,” Sherry told Jax in Season 5 Episode 11. “You’ve taken her out of Kentucky. You’ve taken her away from all of her family.”

In an interview in the episode, Brittany added, “It really would mean a lot if Jax would answer my mom directly. Just let her know that you didn’t waste my time and move me from Kentucky to L.A. Just let her know that you do plan on having a family and being married. You say you do, but don’t beat around the bush when my mom is asking.”

Jax and Brittany Take Kentucky was filmed in 2016

Are Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright Still Together?

In 2016, Jax and Brittany headed to Kentucky to film their spin-off series, Jax and Brittany Take Kentucky. While the one-season show had its hilarious moments (like Jax learning to work on a farm), the season ended on a low note and a bit of a cliffhanger when Brittany decided to stay in Kentucky rather than go back home to L.A. with Jax.

When the show aired in September 2017, Jax confirmed that the couple was still together.

"We're still happy and we're still together," he shared with The Daily Dish in the video above. "When she came home it was kind of like [we can] start fresh, clean slate, start over."

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright broke up in Season 6

Jax Admits to Cheating on Brittany With Faith

In the Season 6 premiere, a rumor was going around that Jax had cheated on Brittany with their coworker. By Episode 2, Jax admitted to his unfaithfulness, and Brittany famously told him to “Rot in hell.”

In dealing with the fallout of the affair, Jax broke up with Brittany. “I am not good in relationships. You deserve a lot better than me. I just don’t think we can be together anymore,” he told her in Episode 19.

In the Vanderpump Rules Season 6 After Show, Brittany called Jax breaking up with her after cheating on her “a kick in the head.” She added, “If it was going to come from anybody, it should have been from me. He had already embarrassed me so much.”

They separation was short-lived, and the couple confirmed they were back together in December 2017 — shortly after Jax's father passed away.

By April 2018, Brittany was happy to report they were in a much better place. "I'm so much happier now," Brittany said in an interview with The Daily Dish podcast. "Everything's better."

"He was very persistent and did not give up," Brittany explained to E! about their reunification in May 2018. "There [were] some times, sorry to say this Jax, but I would have like 30 missed calls from him. He just wasn't going to give up on me. And I knew that I loved him still. I was trying to act like I didn't, but in the end, I'm just so glad that we are where we are now."

One year after getting engaged, Jax and Brittany tied the knot on June 29, 2019 at a castle in Kentucky. The fairytale-themed wedding — which included multiple pre-wedding bashes and was officiated by NSYNC singer Lance Bass — aired in Season 8.

“It feels amazing,” Brittany told PEOPLE before marrying Jax. “We’re stronger and happier than we’ve ever been. We’ve been through a lot, but we came out on the other side. I feel like we’ve just gotten stronger and stronger.”

Jax added, “We know we love each other. We know we want to be together. We’re just really excited. Just really happy with where we are right now.”

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright announced they were expecting a child

In March 2021, Brittany opened up about how Jax had acted as a partner during her pregnancy.

"Jax has really stepped it up and has been an amazing support," Brittany shared in an interview with E!. "He's the first one to run to the bathroom when I'm sick. [He] will put a towel under my knees and get me a cold wash cloth for my neck … [Jax] has even learned how to use the dishwasher and has been doing the dishes regularly … And, he's been bringing his wife breakfast in bed."

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s baby, Cruz Michael Cauchi, was born

On April 12, 2021, Jax and Brittany welcomed their first child together, a son named Cruz Michael Cauchi. “Our lives changed forever in the absolute best way possible,” Brittany shared on Instagram the following day. “We have never been more in love. He is the most precious gift and I am so blessed to be his Mommy.”

Are Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright still together?

The couple is still going strong, and recently hosted three "Watch with the Cast" special of Season 10, Episodes 10, 11, and 12 of Vanderpump Rules.

And, it may have been a minute since Jax and Brittany served drinks and waited tables at SUR, but they’re itching to get back into the hospitality business. In August 2023, they announced on their podcast, When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany, their plans to open up a bar.

“I am opening a sports bar. It is going to be called Jax’s Studio City. We started construction on Monday and I am really excited. We are finally going to have a neighborhood sports bar,” Jax shared. “I know in the past I said that owning a bar is basically a marriage killer, but the difference is [Brittany is] involved just as much as I am. My wife is involved just as much as I am. We have 100% say in what is going on, and she is doing the decorating.”

“He said it many times, and it has freaked me out ever since this project came to be a possibility for us," Brittany added. "It is called Jax’s, but it is mine too. And you are not going to be there 24/7. It is going to be kid-friendly during the day.”
