Malia confirmed the split in a video posted on Instagram on September 22 that featured "PSA" and a black heart emoji in the caption. "Hey, guys, it's Malia. My personal life seems to be quite the topic at the moment. And I am not on Twitter, I don't do a lot of Instagram Lives, so I thought I would send out a message in my own words. So first off, yes, Tom and I have split," Malia said in the clip. "The details surrounding all of it I am trying to keep a little private, just out of respect to him and I. But yes, I am single."

The news comes about a week after Tom shared photos of his reunion with Malia in London earlier this month.

The two had started off this season of Below Deck Med in a long-distance relationship as Malia joined The Wellington crew as bosun. However, what was supposed to be a visit from Tom in Mallorca, Spain during the charter season turned into the chef joining Malia and the rest of the Below Deck Med crew when they were in need of a chef following Hindrigo "Kiko" Lorran's departure earlier this season.

Malia revealed during the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 After Show how Tom joining the crew actually added some stress for her this charter season. "Tom coming on board as chef was like a nightmare. On a selfish level, I wanted this to be about me becoming bosun, and I think Tom coming on board, it's now Malia and Tom. We're like a team," she shared. "That's a whole 'nother dynamic you have to worry about."

She also said that she was wary of mixing her personal and professional lives, especially after experiencing some relationship drama during her first season of Below Deck Med in Season 2. "It's obviously no secret that I've had relationships on the show before, and I know how it can be kind of really intense and can impact things," Malia shared in the After Show. "You know, obviously my fear is how it could affect our relationship because I love Below Deck, but it's not worth my relationship — not with him, not with this one."
