Julia Lemigova Reacts to Martina Navratilova Being Cancer-Free (EXCLUSIVE)
The Real Housewives of Miami cast member told The Daily Dish how she’s feeling now that her tennis legend wife is “cancer-free.”
Just under three months after publicly sharing that she had been diagnosed with Stage 1 throat and early stage breast cancers, Martina Navratilova says she is now cancer-free.
The tennis legend, who’s married to The Real Housewives of Miami’s Julia Lemigova, made the announcement in a TalkTV interview scheduled to air in full on Tuesday, March 21.
“As far as they know I’m cancer-free,” Martina said, per Reuters. “I still need to do the right breast probably with radiation, but only for a couple of weeks and that’s more preventative than anything else.”
“I definitely won’t be missing any of my checkups,” she added, per CNN. “I will be very, very diligent about it, but the prognosis is excellent.”
Naturally, Julia is thrilled. Reacting to the positive news in an exclusive statement issued to The Daily Dish, she said, “I am so proud of my champion for taking on two cancers and beating them triumphantly!”
And doing so was no easy feat. In fact, during the TalkTV interview, Martina described the double cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment process as “definitely the toughest thing I’ve ever done.”
“Who has two cancers at the same time?” she said. “I was never an underachiever, but this is getting ridiculous.”
“Giving up,” however, was “just not an option” for her, she added. “Quitting is just not in my DNA.”
Martina shared a similar sentiment when she first received the diagnosis in November of last year, promising to “fight with all I have got.” According to ESPN, she received the news after she discovered a swollen lymph node in her neck while she was in Texas for the WTA finals. Then, while she was getting the lymph node biopsied, her breast cancer was discovered.
Julia’s RHOM castmates quickly rallied around her after she posted a photo of herself and Martina to Instagram, writing in part, “Together, we will fight this.”
“Yes! Together we will win this battle,” Adriana De Moura wrote, along with two red heart emojis and several prayer hand emojis. Larsa Pippen and Lisa Hochstein commented with red hearts, while Marysol Patton posted prayer hands, a heart, and a set of shooting star emojis.
“We love you both and positive thoughts only,” Guerdy Abraira added, while Alexia Nepola wrote, “You are both strong and you will fight this and win.” Dr. Nicole Martin posted, “Sending you guys lots of love and strength.”
