Captain Glenn Shephard Reacts to Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan's Breakup: "I'm Very Sad"
The Below Deck Sailing Yacht captain also opens up about Dani Soares becoming a mom.
The news of Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan's breakup rocked the world of Below Deck earlier this spring. And few were more upset by the news than Captain Glenn Shephard.
The Below Deck Sailing Yacht boss shared his reaction to his former crew members' split during a recent chat with Captain Lee Rosbach and Captain Sandy Yawn on Bravo's official YouTube channel. "Yeah, I talked to Paget a couple weeks ago, and I don't know if they're gonna get back together. Doesn't seem like it," Captain Glenn said. "I'm very sad because they were a rock solid couple. I don't know. They were together for quite a number of years, too. And I love them. They're very close friends of mine."
Paget and Ciara had been a couple and had previously worked together on boats for a few years before they appeared as part of the deck team in Season 1 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. The first mate and deckhand, respectively, had also worked with Captain Glenn on Parsifal III prior to that charter season.
Though their relationship was put to the test last season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Paget and Ciara were going strong by the end of the charter season and beyond, buying a house together in France and getting engaged in July.
However, Ciara confirmed on Instagram in April that she and Paget had decided to end their relationship. She later told Us Weekly that the split occurred in December 2020, and Captain Glenn was one of the first people she told. “I contacted Glenn pretty much as soon as we broke up, and I was like ‘Glenn, I need to talk to you. I need some fatherly advice,’" she said. "So we had a long chat about it.”
Paget recently confirmed during the May 25 "Pita Party" Instagram chat with Daisy Kelliher, Dani Soares, and Alli Dore that he and Ciara are still in touch today, something that Captain Glenn also noted in his conversation with Captain Lee and Captain Sandy. "I think they still stay in contact because they spend so much time together, but maybe they just figured out it wasn't right, and they just wanted to move on. You have to respect that," he said. "But I love them both. I look forward to seeing them again soon."
In other Below Deck Sailing Yacht news, Dani recently welcomed her first child, a baby girl, after announcing her pregnancy in April. Prior to her daughter's arrival, Captain Glenn opened up about Dani becoming a mom in the chat with his fellow Below Deck captains. "I'm really happy for Dani. I mean, I love Dani. She's fantastic. I guess being a mother was a very important thing for her," Captain Glenn shared. "And good for her. I'm really happy for her."
Captain Glenn was among the many who congratulated Dani after she announced the birth of her daughter on Instagram on May 29 with a photo giving a peek at her little one's little hand. "She is here. She is perfect. And we trying to figure this thing out. We both healthy and happy," Dani wrote in the post. "Thank you for all the support. Will post more once mummy had some rest."
Dani later shared an update in her Instagram Story. "Hey guys! Just wanna [quickly] pop in and say how thankful I am for all your support! I wish I could reply [to] each and everyone of you but I literally haven't brushed my hair in days," she shared. "Just know that I feel all the love and baby [and] I are learning how to do this. Lots of love."
The stew later shared that she was "so thankful for everything" as she reflected on her pregnancy and welcoming her newborn daughter in one of her first Instagram posts since giving birth on June 2. "3 days before you decided to show up," Dani captioned a photo of her proudly displaying her bare baby bump in a bikini while at the beach. "Now that you are here I can't hardly believe that you were in my belly."
